USD Akragas and Marsala shared the spoils in a 2-2 draw in Italy Amateur Eccellenza Puglia on 26 October 2026, producing a four-goal contest at the Stadio Esseneto that swung one way and then the other. Akragas led twice, but Marsala’s persistence earned them a point in a match full of local pride and end-to-end football.

Match overview

USD Akragas started brightly and took the lead through Giuseppe Caruso, whose run into the box was rewarded with a composed finish. Marsala responded with a more direct approach, using long balls and set pieces to trouble the home defence. Their equaliser came from Antonio Marino, who capitalised on a flick-on and converted from close range.

Akragas regained the advantage before the break when Salvatore Ferrara converted a penalty after a foul in the area. The second half was more cautious, but Marsala pushed forward in the final twenty minutes and found a late leveller through Davide Giardina. Both sides had chances in stoppage time, but the match ended level.

Key moments

• Early opener: Giuseppe Caruso gave USD Akragas the lead with a low finish.
• Marsala reply: Antonio Marino equalised after a long ball caused confusion in the box.
• Penalty: Salvatore Ferrara restored Akragas’s advantage from the spot.
• Late drama: Davide Giardina scored Marsala’s second equaliser in the closing stages.

Tactical story

Akragas tried to build through midfield and use their wide players to stretch Marsala’s back line. Their passing was sharper in the first half, but they dropped deeper after taking the lead for the second time. Marsala’s tactical approach was more direct, relying on second balls and set-piece situations. That route produced both of their goals and kept them in the contest even when Akragas looked the more polished side in open play.

Standout players

Caruso was Akragas’s most dangerous attacker, combining sharp movement with a calm finish. Ferrara’s penalty was important, and his link play helped the hosts retain possession in advanced areas. For Marsala, Marino’s equaliser and physical presence caused problems throughout, while Giardina’s late goal underlined his team’s resilience.

Season impact

The draw adds a point to both teams’ totals in Italy Amateur Eccellenza Puglia and leaves them with plenty to build on. Akragas will be frustrated to have conceded late, but their attacking display offered encouragement. Marsala will take confidence from twice coming from behind, a response that could prove valuable in the tight battles ahead.
