Castenaso Calcio claimed a dramatic 3-2 victory over SSD Futball Cava Ronco in the Italy Amateur Eccellenza Puglia, winning a five-goal contest that swung one way and then the other before being settled late on.

The home side started with intent and were rewarded for their early pressure, but Cava Ronco responded with character and pulled themselves back into the game. At 2-2, the match looked destined to end in a share of the points, only for Castenaso to find one final attacking moment and take all three.

A five-goal contest

Castenaso Calcio set the tone from the opening minutes, moving the ball quickly and pushing numbers into the attacking third. Their reward came early when a well-worked move opened up the Cava Ronco defence and the opener was finished with composure. The home support barely had time to settle before Cava Ronco reminded them of the danger in the opposite direction.

The equaliser arrived after Cava Ronco pressed higher and forced a mistake in the Castenaso build-up. A quick exchange on the edge of the box created space, and the finish levelled the score. The momentum shifted again before half-time, though, as Castenaso restored their advantage with a goal that underlined their strength from wide areas.

Leading 2-1 at the interval, Castenaso looked well placed to control the second half. Instead, Cava Ronco produced their best spell of the match. They moved the ball with greater urgency, won second balls in midfield and found an equaliser that made it 2-2. For a period, the away side looked the more likely to score next.

Key moments

• Castenaso Calcio opened the scoring after a bright start, finishing off a flowing attacking move.
• SSD Futball Cava Ronco responded with a well-constructed equaliser after forcing pressure high up the pitch.
• Castenaso regained the lead before half-time, capitalising on space down the flank.
• Cava Ronco levelled again in the second half, setting up a tense final period.
• The decisive moment arrived late when Castenaso found the winning goal, sparking celebrations and leaving Cava Ronco with no time to respond.

The final goal was a fitting conclusion to an end-to-end contest. Castenaso kept their composure in the closing minutes, worked the ball into a dangerous area and produced the finish their overall attacking display deserved. Cava Ronco had defended with commitment for long spells, but the late blow denied them a hard-earned point.

Tactical story

Castenaso Calcio’s approach was built on width and quick combinations. Their full-backs pushed forward to support the wingers, creating overloads that repeatedly troubled the Cava Ronco defence. The movement between the lines was particularly effective in the first half, when Castenaso found space in the channels and delivered dangerous crosses into the box.

Cava Ronco’s response was to press with greater aggression after the break. Their midfield pushed higher, closing the space Castenaso had enjoyed earlier and forcing longer passes. That change brought them back into the game and produced the equaliser. In the end, however, Castenaso’s ability to find one more attacking surge proved decisive.

The match also highlighted the importance of game management in the Eccellenza Puglia. Castenaso did not retreat completely after taking the lead; they continued to look for a third goal, and that ambition was rewarded. Cava Ronco, meanwhile, will point to the quality of their comeback but will also examine the moments when they failed to clear their lines.

Standout performers

Castenaso’s attacking players caused problems throughout, combining well in tight areas and stretching the Cava Ronco back line. The midfield battle was equally important, with both sides working hard to win second balls and dictate the tempo. Cava Ronco’s response after falling behind showed spirit and tactical discipline, and their equaliser was the product of sustained pressure rather than a single moment of fortune.

For the home side, the victory was a collective effort. The defence had to withstand a difficult second-half spell, the goalkeeper handled several dangerous deliveries, and the forwards delivered when it mattered most. It was the kind of performance that can build belief over the course of a season.

What the result means

The 3-2 win gives Castenaso Calcio three valuable points and a strong confidence boost in the Italy Amateur Eccellenza Puglia. Coming through such a closely fought contest will strengthen the squad’s belief in its attacking approach, while also providing clear lessons about protecting a lead. For SSD Futball Cava Ronco, the defeat is painful but the performance offers encouragement: they recovered from setbacks twice and were competitive until the final moments.
