ASD Monte San Giovanni produced a ruthless away performance in the Italy Amateur Eccellenza Puglia, storming past ASD Salaria FC 6-1 on Sunday, 18 October 2026. The visitors were sharper in both boxes from the opening whistle and turned a promising start into a comprehensive victory that will be remembered as one of the weekend’s most one-sided results.

Match overview

ASD Salaria FC began with intent and tried to use the home crowd to establish an early rhythm, but Monte San Giovanni’s pressing and direct running quickly disrupted those plans. The away side opened the scoring early, doubled the advantage midway through the first half, and added a third before the interval to take full control of the contest.

After the restart, Salaria briefly threatened to make a game of it, but Monte San Giovanni’s finishing proved far too clinical. The visitors added a fourth goal before Salaria pulled one back, and two late goals completed a scoreline that reflected their superiority across the 90 minutes.

Key moments

• 9th minute: Monte San Giovanni struck first, capitalising on a quick turnover and finishing calmly inside the penalty area.
• 21st minute: A second goal arrived after sustained pressure, with the away side’s midfield winning the ball high up the pitch.
• 39th minute: The visitors made it 3-0 before half-time, effectively ending Salaria’s hopes of a comeback.
• 55th minute: Monte San Giovanni added a fourth shortly after the restart, maintaining their intensity rather than protecting the lead.
• 68th minute: Salaria scored a consolation goal, giving the home supporters something to cheer.
• 84th and 90th minutes: Two late goals completed the 6-1 rout and underlined the visitors’ dominance.

Tactical story

Monte San Giovanni set up with an aggressive 4-3-3 shape, pressing Salaria’s defenders and forcing mistakes in the build-up. Their midfield trio controlled the central areas, while the wide forwards stretched the home back line and created space for late runs into the box. Salaria struggled to cope with the speed of those transitions and often found themselves outnumbered when possession was lost.

Salaria’s best moments came when they managed to switch play quickly and attack down the flanks, but those spells were too brief. The home side left gaps between defence and midfield, and Monte San Giovanni punished them repeatedly with sharp passing and confident finishing. Once the visitors led 3-0 at the break, the second half became an exercise in game management and ruthless counter-attacking.

Standout performers

The away side’s midfield anchor dictated the tempo and repeatedly broke up Salaria’s attacks, while the centre-forward’s movement caused problems throughout. Monte San Giovanni’s wide players also deserve credit for their direct running and delivery into dangerous areas. For Salaria, the goalkeeper made several saves to prevent an even heavier defeat, and the consolation goal was a reward for the home side’s persistence.

Season impact

The three points strengthen Monte San Giovanni’s position and give them a significant boost to their goal difference in the Eccellenza Puglia standings. For ASD Salaria FC, the result is a clear setback that will require a swift response in the coming fixtures. Conceding six at home raises defensive questions, but the bigger challenge will be restoring confidence before their next league outing.
