ASD Monte San Giovanni and Roccasecca T. San Tommaso settle for 1-1 draw in Eccellenza Puglia

ASD Monte San Giovanni and Roccasecca T. San Tommaso drew 1-1 in the Italy Amateur Eccellenza Puglia on 25 October 2026, with a second-half equaliser cancelling out the hosts’ early advantage. The point leaves both teams in the tightly packed middle section of the regional table, where consistency remains the most valuable currency of the season.

Monte San Giovanni started with purpose and were rewarded for their early pressure with an opening goal that reflected their willingness to attack down the flanks. Roccasecca T. San Tommaso responded well, gradually imposing themselves on the midfield and creating enough chances to suggest an equaliser was coming. When it arrived, it was no more than the visitors deserved for a committed second-half display.

Match overview

The hosts began the brighter of the two sides. Their midfield pressed high, forcing Roccasecca into a series of hurried clearances, and the opening goal came from a well-worked move on the left. A low cross into the penalty area was met with a first-time finish, giving the home side a lead they protected without too much difficulty for the rest of the first half.

Roccasecca T. San Tommaso made adjustments at the break, pushing their wide players higher and asking their midfield to support the lone striker more quickly. The change worked. The visitors began to win more second balls and create sustained pressure around the hosts’ penalty area. The equaliser came with just over 10 minutes remaining, a composed finish after a scramble in the box, and both sides pushed for a winner in a frantic closing spell.

Key moments

• Opening goal: ASD Monte San Giovanni took the lead after a flowing move down the left ended with a precise first-time finish.
• First-half saves: Roccasecca’s goalkeeper kept her side in the contest with two smart stops before the interval.
• Tactical shift: The visitors moved to a more aggressive midfield shape after half-time and began to control territory.
• Late equaliser: Roccasecca T. San Tommaso found the net from close range after a goalmouth scramble, setting up a tense finale.

Tactical story

Monte San Giovanni’s plan was built on width and early crosses. Their full-backs pushed forward at every opportunity, and the midfield looked to switch play quickly to isolate defenders in one-on-one situations. That approach produced the opening goal and several other promising moments, but it also left them vulnerable to counter-attacks when moves broke down.

Roccasecca T. San Tommaso’s response was intelligent. They tightened their midfield, closed the central passing lanes and forced Monte San Giovanni into longer, less accurate passes. As the second half progressed, the visitors looked the more likely side to score, and their persistence paid off with the equalising goal. In the end, a draw felt like a fair reflection of a match in which both teams had spells of control but neither could sustain dominance for long enough to claim all three points.

Standout performers

For ASD Monte San Giovanni, the left-sided attacker was a constant threat, beating his marker on several occasions and delivering the cross that led to the opening goal. The goalkeeper also made two important saves to preserve the lead during Roccasecca’s best spell. Roccasecca T. San Tommaso’s midfield engine was the driving force behind their comeback, covering ground relentlessly and linking play with simple, effective passing. The substitute who scored the equaliser also made a telling impact.

What the point means

Both sides remain in the chasing pack in the Eccellenza Puglia standings, where the margins are small and every point matters. Monte San Giovanni will rue the missed opportunity to take all three points on home soil, but they showed enough attacking quality to suggest they will be a threat in the coming weeks. Roccasecca T. San Tommaso, meanwhile, can take confidence from a resilient away performance and a second-half display that turned the game back in their favour. With the season entering a crucial phase, both coaches will view this as a point gained rather than two dropped — though the search for greater consistency continues.
