Sassuolo Women were beaten 4-1 by Napoli Women in Italian Women’s Serie A on October 17, 2026, as the visitors produced a powerful and clinical away performance. Napoli Women’s pressing and quick transitions overwhelmed Sassuolo for long stretches, and the scoreline reflected their superiority in the final third.

Match overview

Napoli Women started aggressively, pressing Sassuolo’s back line and forcing errors in the early build-up. The visitors took the lead inside the first quarter and, although Sassuolo equalised with a well-taken goal, Napoli regained control quickly. From that point on, the away side looked sharper, faster and more confident in possession.

The second half was largely one-way traffic. Napoli added two more goals as Sassuolo pushed forward in search of a route back into the game. The home side had moments of promise, but their defensive shape was repeatedly stretched by Napoli’s movement and willingness to attack in numbers.

• 24th minute: Sassuolo Women equalised with a composed finish following a positive attacking sequence.
• 39th minute: Napoli restored their lead with a close-range finish after a cross from the right.

Tactical story

Napoli Women’s high press was the defining feature of the match. They denied Sassuolo time on the ball and forced long passes that were easy to recover. When Napoli won possession, they attacked with purpose, using wide runners and central overloads to create chances. Their movement off the ball was excellent, particularly in the channels between Sassuolo’s full-backs and centre-backs.

Sassuolo Women tried to play out from the back, but the pressure proved difficult to handle. Their equaliser showed what they were capable of when they moved the ball quickly, yet they could not sustain that level. Defensively, Sassuolo were too open after losing possession, and Napoli’s direct running punished them repeatedly.

Standout performers

Napoli Women’s forward line was outstanding, with their striker scoring twice and leading the press from the front. The midfield also controlled the rhythm of the game, winning second balls and feeding the attack. For Sassuolo, the equalising goal was a bright moment, but the team’s most consistent performer was their goalkeeper, who made several saves to keep the score from becoming even more one-sided.
