Fiorentina Women produced a controlled and clinical display to beat Sassuolo Women 2-0 in Italy's Serie A Women on 3 October 2026, extending their strong form in the Italian top flight, the Serie A Femminile. Two goals and a clean sheet made it a satisfactory evening's work for the Viola in front of their home support.

Match Overview

Fiorentina entered the contest as favourites and played like it, dictating the rhythm from the opening whistle. Sassuolo, always a well-organised and competitive opponent in Serie A Women, sat deep and attempted to frustrate the hosts, looking to spring forward through their wide players on the break.

The home side's patience was rewarded, and once the first goal arrived the game opened up. A second goal sealed the points, and Fiorentina managed the closing stages comfortably to record a two-goal victory without ever looking seriously troubled.

Key Moments

• Early pressure: Fiorentina forced a string of corners inside the first quarter of an hour, pinning Sassuolo inside their own half.
• Opening goal: The breakthrough came from patient build-up play, with a clever final pass splitting the defensive line.
• Doubling up: Fiorentina added a second after the interval, finishing off a fast attacking move that started in their own half.
• Clean sheet secured: Sassuolo's best chances arrived late, but the Fiorentina goalkeeper and centre-backs dealt with them comfortably.

Tactical Story

Fiorentina's shape gave them control in midfield, where they consistently won second balls and recycled possession quickly. Their full-backs pushed high to create overloads on the flanks, forcing Sassuolo's wide midfielders into deep defensive positions and limiting their ability to counter.

Sassuolo's plan was disciplined but reactive. When they did win the ball back, they lacked the numbers forward to genuinely trouble the home defence, and their best moments came from set-pieces rather than open play. Fiorentina's ability to switch play quickly from side to side was the defining feature of the match.

Standout Performers

Fiorentina's attacking midfielder was the creative hub, linking midfield and attack and contributing directly to the opening goal. The centre-forward's movement repeatedly dragged defenders out of position, and the defensive unit deserved credit for a composed, error-free evening. For Sassuolo, the goalkeeper kept the scoreline respectable with several saves, while their captain worked tirelessly in midfield against difficult odds.

What It Means for the Season

Three points and a clean sheet keep Fiorentina firmly in the upper reaches of the Serie A Women table, in the group of clubs competing for European qualification places. For Sassuolo, the defeat is a difficult but not unexpected one away at a strong opponent; their season will likely be defined by results against the teams around them rather than trips to the league's leading sides. Fiorentina, meanwhile, will take confidence from a performance that combined attacking fluency with defensive solidity.
