Tactical story

Roma's victory was built on their ability to attack quickly and decisively. They pressed Milan's midfield, forced turnovers and then moved the ball forward with purpose. Milan had their moments, particularly when they found space between Roma's midfield and defence, but they were unable to maintain sustained pressure. Roma's back line rode their luck at times, but the home side's attacking output ultimately made the difference in a game where both defences were stretched.

Standout players

Roma's forward line caused problems throughout, with movement and link-up play that repeatedly opened up Milan's defence. The midfield provided the platform, winning possession and driving forward. For Milan, the attacking players showed good spirit and took their goals well, but the team's defensive lapses proved costly. Both goalkeepers were busy and made important saves, but Roma's greater cutting edge in the final third was the key factor.

Season impact

This 4-2 win strengthens AS Roma Women's position in Italian Women's Serie A and sends a clear message about their attacking capabilities. AC Milan Women will take encouragement from their two goals and their fighting spirit, but they will need to tighten up defensively if they are to climb the table. With plenty of football still to play, the result could prove important in the race for the top positions.
