Virtus Bolzano 1-3 Calvi Noale — Calvi Noale produced a clinical away performance to beat Virtus Bolzano 3-1 in Italian Serie D on Sunday, October 4, 2026. Luca Ballarin’s brace and a well-taken team goal gave Calvi Noale control, and although Virtus Bolzano pulled one back, the visitors were full value for the three points.

Calvi Noale punish Virtus Bolzano on the counter

Calvi Noale started the match with a clear plan: sit compact, absorb pressure, and attack at speed when turnovers occurred. Virtus Bolzano saw plenty of the ball in the opening stages, but they struggled to break down a well-organised defensive block. The visitors looked dangerous every time they won possession in midfield, and they took the lead with their first real chance of the game.

The early goal forced Virtus Bolzano to push more players forward, which only increased the space available to Calvi Noale. The away side doubled their advantage before half-time and then managed the game expertly after the break, even after Virtus Bolzano briefly reduced the deficit.

Key moments

• 14' — Calvi Noale take the lead. Luca Ballarin times his run perfectly and slots a low finish past the Virtus Bolzano goalkeeper.
• 31' — Virtus Bolzano’s best chance of the first half, a header from a corner, is cleared off the line.
• 39' — Calvi Noale make it 2-0. Andrea Michielon finishes a swift counter-attack with a composed strike from the edge of the box.
• 55' — Virtus Bolzano pull one back. Daniel Rizzo reacts quickest to a rebound and fires home to give the home side hope.
• 72' — Luca Ballarin restores Calvi Noale’s two-goal cushion. He converts a precise cross at the back post for his second goal of the night.
• 88' — Virtus Bolzano push bodies forward, but Calvi Noale’s defence holds firm to see out the win.

Tactical story: efficiency in transition

Calvi Noale’s 4-4-2 shape without the ball was difficult to break down. The two banks of four stayed narrow, forcing Virtus Bolzano into wide areas where crosses could be defended. Once Calvi Noale won the ball, they transitioned quickly, with Ballarin and Michielon attacking the spaces behind Virtus Bolzano’s advanced full-backs.

Virtus Bolzano dominated possession statistics but lacked penetration. Their goal came from a moment of persistence rather than a clear tactical breakthrough, and they were repeatedly exposed when they lost the ball in central areas. It was a harsh lesson in the importance of balance between attack and defence.

Standout players

Luca Ballarin was the outstanding player on the pitch, scoring twice and stretching the Virtus Bolzano defence throughout. His movement in behind was a constant threat, and his finishing was ruthless. Andrea Michielon also impressed, linking play and scoring a crucial second goal.

For Virtus Bolzano, Daniel Rizzo deserved credit for his goal and his work rate, while the goalkeeper made a number of saves to keep the scoreline respectable. However, the home side’s defensive transitions will be a major focus in training.

Serie D impact

The win gives Calvi Noale a timely boost in the Serie D table and proves they can deliver on the road against difficult opponents. For Virtus Bolzano, it is a frustrating home defeat that leaves them searching for consistency. The result also improves Calvi Noale’s head-to-head record against Virtus Bolzano and adds further pressure on the Bolzano side to tighten up defensively in the coming weeks.
