Vigor Lamezia 2-0 Castrumfavara: Home Side Seals Serie D Win with Second-Half Surge

Vigor Lamezia claimed a well-earned 2-0 victory over Castrumfavara in their Italian Serie D clash on Sunday evening, with a disciplined second-half display at the Stadio Guido D'Ippolito. The win lifts the Calabrian side into a more comfortable position in the Serie D standings and extends their unbeaten run on home soil.

After a cagey opening period, Vigor Lamezia took control after the break, scoring twice in the space of fifteen minutes to put the match beyond the visitors. Castrumfavara, who had defended stubbornly in the first half, were ultimately undone by the hosts' superior fitness and sharper finishing.

Match Overview

The first half was a tactical battle, with Castrumfavara sitting deep and looking to frustrate the home side. Vigor Lamezia dominated possession but struggled to find a way through a compact defensive block. The best chance of the opening 45 minutes fell to the home team's captain, who headed narrowly over from a corner.

Whatever was said at half-time in the Vigor Lamezia dressing room clearly worked. The hosts came out with renewed intensity, pressing higher and moving the ball quicker. The breakthrough arrived in the 58th minute when a clever through ball released the striker, who calmly slotted past the onrushing goalkeeper.

Key Moments

• 58th minute: Vigor Lamezia open the scoring with a clinical finish after a well-worked move through midfield.
• 73rd minute: The lead is doubled as a substitute forward latches onto a loose ball in the box and fires home.
• 85th minute: Castrumfavara's best chance of the night is headed wide from a free-kick.

The second goal effectively ended the contest. Castrumfavara, who had offered little going forward, were forced to push men higher and left gaps at the back. Vigor Lamezia managed the game intelligently, keeping possession and running down the clock without alarm.

Tactical Story

Vigor Lamezia lined up in a flexible 4-3-3 that became a 4-2-3-1 when attacking. Their full-backs pushed high, pinning Castrumfavara's wide players back and creating overloads in the final third. The midfield trio controlled the tempo, winning second balls and recycling possession efficiently.

Castrumfavara's 5-3-2 formation was designed to absorb pressure and hit on the counter, but their transitions lacked speed and precision. With no outlet up front, they were unable to relieve the pressure, and their defence eventually cracked under sustained pressure.

Standout Players

Vigor Lamezia's central midfielder was the engine of the team, completing the most passes and winning possession repeatedly. The substitute who scored the second goal made an immediate impact, while the goalkeeper ensured a clean sheet with a confident display, claiming crosses and distributing well.

For Castrumfavara, the centre-back pairing worked tirelessly but were left exposed by a lack of support from midfield. The goalkeeper made several good saves to keep the score respectable.

Serie D Table Impact

With this result, Vigor Lamezia add three valuable points to their Serie D tally and strengthen their position in the upper half of the table. Castrumfavara remain in the lower reaches and will need to find goals quickly if they are to climb away from trouble. Next up, Vigor Lamezia face a tricky away trip, while Castrumfavara return home seeking a response.
