Venafro 2-3 Budoni — the islanders made the long journey from Sardinia count. Budoni travelled to Molise and returned with a hard-fought 3-2 victory over Venafro on the evening of Sunday 27 September 2026, a result built on clinical finishing and a stubborn refusal to be knocked off course.

Match overview

Venafro kicked off at 20:30 in front of a home crowd of around 600, and for the opening twenty minutes they looked the sharper side, moving the ball quickly across a well-maintained surface. Budoni, as is often the case for teams making the crossing from Sardinia, took time to settle, but once they found their rhythm the game changed completely.

Key moments

• 14' — Venafro lead. A well-worked short corner ended with a low drive from the edge of the box and the home side were ahead.
• 31' — Budoni equalise. A fine individual run from the left ended with a composed finish into the far corner.
• 44' — Budoni turn it around. Another quick break, another goal, and suddenly the visitors went into the interval in front.
• Half-time: Venafro 1-2 Budoni.
• 58' — Venafro level again. A header from a deep cross brought the home crowd back into the contest at 2-2.
• 77' — Budoni's winner. A misjudged clearance fell kindly to a Budoni midfielder, who struck first time from twenty yards.

Tactical story

Venafro's build-up play was patient and often attractive, with their midfield three rotating well to create passing lanes. The problem was what happened when those moves broke down. Budoni were content to sit slightly deeper and attack in numbers the moment they won possession, and three of their most dangerous moments came within seconds of a Venafro attack fizzling out.

The visitors also handled the closing stages intelligently, slowing the tempo and drawing fouls to break up any rhythm Venafro tried to establish. It was the performance of a team that understands how to win away from home in a division where travel and conditions often level the playing field.

Standout performers

Budoni's wide players were the architects of the win, combining direct running with genuinely good decision-making in the final third. The winning goal came from a midfielder who had grown into the game after a quiet opening half hour.

Venafro's centre-forward led the line impressively and was involved in both goals, while their goalkeeper produced two fine saves to keep the deficit at one during Budoni's strongest spell. On another night, that would have been enough for a point.

What it means for the table

An away win of this nature is invaluable for Budoni, who now have evidence that the long trips do not have to be a burden. It gives them momentum heading into a run of fixtures where they will fancy their chances.

Venafro, meanwhile, are left with the familiar frustration of a good attacking display undermined by defensive lapses. Scoring twice at home and taking nothing from the game is the sort of outcome that can define a season's mood, and the response in the next fixture will be revealing.
