Siracusa and Trapani Share Spoils in Entertaining Draw

US Siracusa and Trapani Calcio played out a 1-1 draw in a highly competitive Italian Serie D match on 25 October 2026. Both sides had spells of dominance, but neither could find a winner, leaving the points shared in a result that felt fair on the balance of play.

The match pitted two of the division’s more ambitious clubs against each other, and it lived up to the billing. Siracusa started brightly, using the home crowd to their advantage, while Trapani grew into the game and showed why they are considered among the favourites for promotion.

Match Overview

Siracusa took the lead in the 23rd minute when Giuseppe Romano latched onto a through ball and finished calmly past the goalkeeper. The home side controlled the remainder of the first half, but Trapani came out stronger after the break. Their equaliser arrived in the 61st minute through a well-taken goal from Antonio Russo, who curled a shot into the top corner from the edge of the box.

Both teams pushed for a winner in the final 20 minutes. Siracusa hit the post, while Trapani forced a superb save from the home goalkeeper. In the end, a draw was probably the right outcome, with both defences holding firm under late pressure.

Key Moments

• 23' – Giuseppe Romano gives Siracusa the lead with a composed finish.
• 61' – Antonio Russo equalises for Trapani with a curling effort.
• 75' – Siracusa strike the post from a free-kick.
• 84' – Trapani’s striker is denied by a brilliant one-handed save.

Tactical Story

Siracusa deployed a high-pressing 4-3-3, aiming to disrupt Trapani’s build-up play. It worked in the first half, but Trapani adjusted at the break, dropping a midfielder deeper to create more space in the middle. The equaliser came from a moment of individual brilliance, but Trapani’s tactical tweak gave them a foothold in the game. Both managers will take positives from the performance.

Standout Players

Giuseppe Romano was lively throughout for Siracusa, while Antonio Russo’s equaliser was the highlight for Trapani. The two goalkeepers also deserve credit for making key saves at crucial moments. In midfield, Marco Esposito of Trapani was instrumental in turning the tide after half-time.

League Impact

The draw leaves both teams in contention near the top of the Serie D table. Siracusa will be pleased with their first-half display but frustrated not to take all three points, while Trapani will see it as a valuable away point against a direct rival. Both sides remain firmly in the promotion conversation.
