SCD Progresso Calcio 0-1 Ternana — Ternana secured a narrow 1-0 victory over SCD Progresso Calcio in Italian Serie D on 25 October 2026, with a second-half goal proving enough to separate the sides in a hard-fought contest.

Match overview

Ternana arrived as the stronger side on paper and controlled possession for long periods, but Progresso Calcio made them work for every inch. The hosts defended with discipline, kept their shape, and limited Ternana to few clear chances in the first half. The breakthrough eventually came after the break, and Ternana’s game management saw them through the closing stages.

Progresso will take heart from their organisation and resilience, but they lacked a cutting edge in the final third. Ternana, meanwhile, showed why they are considered one of the stronger teams in the division, grinding out a result even when not at their fluent best.

Key moments

• 14th minute: Ternana’s first sight of goal came from a corner, but the header was cleared off the line.
• 33rd minute: Progresso produced a rare counterattack, but the final shot lacked power and was saved easily.
• 58th minute: Ternana broke the deadlock when Davide Marchetti collected a pass on the edge of the box and curled a low effort into the corner.
• 72nd minute: Progresso pushed forward and forced a smart save from Ternana’s goalkeeper.
• 89th minute: Ternana defended a late corner bravely to protect their lead.

Tactical story

Ternana dominated possession in a 4-3-3, using their midfield triangle to circulate the ball and pull Progresso out of position. The hosts sat in a compact 5-4-1 block, conceding territory but protecting the central areas. That strategy frustrated Ternana for long spells, but the visitors’ patience paid off when Marchetti found space just outside the box.

After taking the lead, Ternana dropped slightly deeper and invited pressure, relying on their defensive organisation and the experience of their back line. Progresso tried to exploit the space with crosses and long throws, but Ternana’s defenders dealt with the aerial threat effectively. The final minutes were nervy for the visitors, but they saw the game out professionally.

Standout performers

Marchetti was the match-winner for Ternana, producing the one moment of real quality in the final third. Their goalkeeper also deserves credit for a key save at 1-0. For Progresso, the central defenders were outstanding for much of the game, limiting Ternana’s clear chances and keeping the scoreline respectable.

What the result means

The win keeps Ternana on track in the Serie D standings and reinforces their credentials as a side capable of grinding out results on difficult away days. For SCD Progresso Calcio, the defeat is a narrow one, but it shows the fine margins in the division. Progresso will need to find more attacking threat in future matches, while Ternana will be satisfied with three points and another clean sheet.
