San Donato Tavarnelle and Mezzolara shared the points on Sunday evening, drawing 1-1 in a Serie D fixture that was decided by two contrasting spells of control. Mezzolara struck first through Ricciardi in the opening half, before the hosts salvaged a deserved equaliser when Bellini rose to head home from a corner with twelve minutes remaining. It was a result that left both managers with a familiar mixture of relief and frustration.

Match Overview

The visitors made the better start, pressing high and forcing San Donato Tavarnelle into a series of rushed clearances. That pressure told in the 23rd minute, when Ricciardi found space at the edge of the box and placed a precise finish beyond the reach of the home goalkeeper. It was the kind of goal that rewarded Mezzolara's bravery in committing bodies forward.

San Donato Tavarnelle responded well, gradually establishing control of possession and creating a string of half-chances either side of the interval. Their persistence was finally rewarded on 78 minutes, when Bellini attacked a deep corner and directed a powerful header into the net to level the score.

Key Moments

• 23' — 0-1: Ricciardi opens the scoring for Mezzolara with a clean finish from the edge of the area
• 41' — San Donato Tavarnelle's best chance of the first half is cleared off the line
• 63' — A double substitution shifts the momentum firmly towards the hosts
• 78' — 1-1: Bellini heads home a corner to equalise
• 90+2' — Mezzolara survive a late scramble to hold on for the draw

Tactical Story

Mezzolara's game plan was clear from the opening whistle: press aggressively, force turnovers in the middle third and attack quickly before the home defence could set. It worked beautifully for half an hour, but the energy cost was significant. As the visitors' pressing intensity dropped, San Donato Tavarnelle's midfield began to dictate the tempo and the match turned into a siege of sorts.

The hosts' equaliser was no accident. San Donato Tavarnelle sent more players forward as the half wore on and began targeting set pieces as their most reliable route to goal — an approach that eventually delivered, with Bellini winning his duel at the near post. Mezzolara will feel they defended too deep in the closing stages, dropping their line almost onto the edge of their own six-yard box.

Standout Players

Ricciardi was Mezzolara's standout performer, and his goal was a moment of genuine quality in an otherwise scrappy contest. Goalkeeper Enrico Baschieri also deserves praise for a number of sharp stops that preserved the point.

For San Donato Tavarnelle, Bellini was the difference-maker with his headed equaliser, while the energetic Marco Fiaschi drove his side forward repeatedly from midfield and was unlucky not to score himself just after the break.

Season Impact

A single point is a modest return for San Donato Tavarnelle given the volume of possession and chances they created, and their supporters will view this as two points dropped rather than one gained. Mezzolara, meanwhile, will take encouragement from a solid away display and a result that keeps them competitive in the middle of the Serie D table. Both sides remain separated by very little in the standings, which makes their reverse fixture later in the season one to circle on the calendar.
