Prato edged a competitive Tuscan derby at the Stadio Lungobisenzio, defeating Ghivizzano 2-1 in Italian Serie D on Sunday 27 September 2026. The hosts led twice in a tense, physical encounter and had to survive a nervy final phase before confirming a result that keeps them in the leading pack of the division.

Match Overview

Derbies in Serie D rarely follow a script, and this one delivered the expected intensity. Prato started brighter, pressing Ghivizzano's build-up and forcing early errors, and the opening goal came from a turnover high up the pitch that was converted with a composed finish inside the penalty area. Ghivizzano, to their credit, did not fold; they equalised before the interval with their best move of the match, a patient sequence that pulled the home defence out of shape and opened a shooting lane at the edge of the box.

The second half was tighter, with chances at a premium and tackles flying in midfield. Prato's winner arrived from a set piece, a delivery that was attacked aggressively at the near post and redirected beyond the goalkeeper. From there it became a test of character, and the home side passed it, albeit with a couple of late scares.

Key Moments

• Opener from the press — Prato's high counter-press forced a loose pass, and the resulting chance was finished low into the corner.
• Ghivizzano's equaliser — a well-worked move down the left ended with a shot from the edge of the area that beat the goalkeeper's dive.
• The near-post winner — Prato's decisive goal came from a corner, flicked home at the near post with the visiting defence static.
• Late defending — two goalmouth scrambles in the final ten minutes kept the home support on edge until the final whistle.

Tactical Story

Prato's approach was built on aggressive ball recovery. Their midfield pushed high, cutting off the switch to Ghivizzano's wide players, and the front three worked tirelessly to deny clean exits from the back. That intensity faded slightly after the break, which allowed the visitors to play through the middle more often and created the platform for their equaliser.

Ghivizzano were at their most dangerous when they moved the ball quickly from side to side, stretching Prato's back four and creating room between the lines. Their problem was converting territory into clear chances: the final pass was too often delayed, and when crosses did arrive, Prato's centre-backs dealt with them. The introduction of fresh legs on the flanks late on gave the visitors more width, but the equaliser never came.

Standout Performers

Prato's captain set the tone in midfield, breaking up play and driving forward with the ball, and the centre-forward's link play was central to both goals. The goalkeeper produced a sharp save late on to preserve the lead. For Ghivizzano, the left-sided attacker was the standout, repeatedly beating his marker and delivering dangerous balls into the box, while the substitute striker's movement caused problems in the closing minutes.

Season Impact

Derby wins carry extra weight in Serie D, where local rivalries shape the mood of an entire campaign. Prato take the three points and the bragging rights, plus a useful boost to their home record. Ghivizzano leave with nothing but a performance that suggested they will be competitive across the season — a narrow away defeat in a derby is rarely the fixture that defines a team's year.
