Pietralunga 0-2 Mar Ratase: Clinical Away Performance Secures Three Points

Mar Ratase returned from Pietralunga with a 2-0 victory in Italian Serie D on 20 September 2026, thanks to a disciplined defensive display and two well-timed goals. The visitors never allowed Pietralunga to settle, controlling key moments and punishing the home side’s mistakes with clinical efficiency.

The clean sheet was especially impressive, as Mar Ratase defended their lead with composure after taking the initiative in the first half. For Pietralunga, it was a frustrating evening in which effort was not matched by quality in the final third.

Match Overview

Pietralunga started with energy, looking to use the home crowd as an extra motivation. They pressed high and tried to force Mar Ratase into early errors, but the visitors stood firm and gradually took control of midfield. Mar Ratase’s passing was sharper, and their front players found space between Pietralunga’s defensive lines with increasing regularity.

The opening goal arrived midway through the first half and changed the complexion of the match. Pietralunga had to push forward more after the break, which created gaps for Mar Ratase to exploit. The second goal effectively ended the contest, and the visitors managed the closing stages professionally.

Key Moments

• 19th minute – Mar Ratase 1-0: Lucas Ferreira opened the scoring with a composed finish after a neat through-ball split the Pietralunga defence. Ferreira took one touch to control and slotted low past the goalkeeper.
• 42nd minute – Pietralunga chance: The home side’s best opportunity of the first half fell to their striker, but a last-ditch block denied him from close range.
• 73rd minute – Mar Ratase 2-0: Simone Neri doubled the lead with a header from a well-delivered cross, rising above his marker and directing the ball into the corner.
• 89th minute – Pietralunga frustration: A late free-kick was curled over the bar as Mar Ratase closed out the win without further alarm.

Tactical Story

Pietralunga lined up in a 4-4-2 and tried to press aggressively in wide areas. However, their midfield struggled to maintain compactness, and Mar Ratase’s 4-3-3 created numerical advantages in central zones. The visitors’ midfielders rotated constantly, making it difficult for Pietralunga to track runners.

Without the ball, Mar Ratase defended in a disciplined 4-5-1, closing the space between the lines and forcing Pietralunga to play sideways. The home side crossed frequently but found the centre-backs dominant in the air. Mar Ratase’s counterattacks were direct and purposeful, and both goals came from moments when they turned defence into attack quickly.

Standout Performers

Lucas Ferreira was a constant threat, scoring the opener and stretching the Pietralunga defence with his movement. Simone Neri’s second-half header was the decisive blow, and his all-round hold-up play helped Mar Ratase relieve pressure. The goalkeeper and central defenders were calm and organised, preserving a valuable clean sheet.

Pietralunga’s goalkeeper made several saves to keep the score down, and the left-back delivered a few dangerous crosses, but the home side lacked a consistent goal threat. Their captain in midfield tried to drive the team forward, but Mar Ratase’s pressing limited his influence.

Serie D Standings Impact

Mar Ratase’s 2-0 win adds three points to their Serie D total and continues their encouraging form on the road. A clean sheet away from home is a strong foundation for the fixtures ahead. Pietralunga remain in search of consistency, and they will need to improve their efficiency in the final third to climb the standings in the coming weeks.
