Pavia and Varesina Play Out Thrilling 2-2 Draw

Pavia and Varesina Calcio shared the spoils in a pulsating 2-2 draw in Italian Serie D on October 11, 2026. Four goals, momentum swings, and late drama made this one of the most entertaining fixtures of the matchday, with both sides taking a point from a game that could have gone either way.

The result leaves both teams with mixed emotions. Pavia will feel they did enough to win, while Varesina will take confidence from twice fighting back against a strong opponent. In the context of the Serie D season, it was a point that underlined the competitive balance of the division.

Match Overview

Pavia started the game on the front foot, moving the ball quickly and looking to exploit space behind Varesina’s defence. Their early pressure was rewarded with the opening goal, and for a period they looked in control. But Varesina responded well, pressing higher and finding joy through their wide attackers.

The game became a back-and-forth contest after the break. Pavia restored their lead with a well-taken goal, but Varesina refused to lie down and equalised late to secure a share of the points.

Key Moments

• 12th minute: Pavia took the lead with a composed finish after a flowing attacking move.
• 34th minute: Varesina equalised from a quick counterattack, beating the goalkeeper with a low strike.
• 58th minute: Pavia regained the advantage, converting a cross from the right with a powerful header.
• 82nd minute: Varesina found the equaliser, capitalising on a defensive lapse and finishing calmly to make it 2-2.

Tactical Story

Pavia used a possession-based approach, with their midfielders looking to dictate the tempo and switch play from side to side. Their full-backs pushed high, creating overloads on the wings and delivering crosses into the box. The strategy worked well for long spells, but it also left them vulnerable to Varesina’s counterattacks.

Varesina set up with a compact 4-4-2 and looked to spring forward quickly whenever they won the ball. Their two strikers worked the channels tirelessly, and the wide midfielders provided pace on the break. The equaliser came from exactly that kind of transition: a turnover in midfield, a direct pass forward, and a composed finish.

Standout Performers

Pavia’s attacking midfielder was the game’s most creative player, linking play and creating chances with intelligent passing. The striker who scored the header was a constant threat in the air. At the back, the goalkeeper made two important saves to keep the score level at critical moments.

For Varesina, the left winger was electric, causing problems every time he ran at the defence. The central midfielder who drove the team forward showed great stamina and composure. The substitute who scored the late equaliser made an instant impact.

Serie D Table Impact

A draw is often seen as a fair result in a game with this many chances, but both managers will find areas to improve. Pavia will be frustrated by their inability to hold onto the lead, while Varesina will be encouraged by their resilience and fighting spirit.

In the Serie D standings, every point matters. Pavia remains a dangerous attacking side but must tighten up defensively if they are to challenge for promotion. Varesina, meanwhile, have shown they can compete with anyone on their day and will look to build on this spirited comeback.
