Montecchio Maggiore and Foligno Calcio played out an entertaining 1-1 draw on Sunday 27 September 2026, with both sides taking a share of the points from a Serie D fixture that started at 21:00 and swung one way and then the other. In the end, a single goal apiece was a fair reflection of a game in which both teams had spells of control without ever dominating for the full ninety minutes.

Match overview

The hosts began brightly, pressing high and forcing a series of early corners as they looked to capitalise on home advantage. Montecchio Maggiore's energy was evident from the first whistle, with their wingers hugging the touchline and their midfield pushing up to support the attack.

Foligno weathered that early storm and gradually grew into the contest, showing the composure and technical quality that has made them a difficult opponent. By the closing stages it was the visitors who looked the more likely to snatch a winner.

Key moments

• 21st minute — 1-0 Montecchio: A well-timed run from midfield was picked out by a defence-splitting pass, and the finish was crisp and low into the corner.
• 44th minute: Foligno's best chance of the first half, a header from a deep cross that clipped the top of the crossbar.
• 63rd minute — 1-1 Foligno: The equaliser, a composed finish from inside the box after a neat exchange on the edge of the area.
• 78th minute: Montecchio's goalkeeper made a superb one-handed save to deny Foligno a second.
• 89th minute: A late scramble at the other end ended with a blocked shot as both teams pushed for the winner.

Tactical story

Montecchio Maggiore's approach was built on intensity. They pressed aggressively in the first half, forced turnovers in the middle third and looked to attack quickly through the channels. That strategy earned them the lead, but it also drained energy, and as the game wore on their pressing lines dropped deeper.

Foligno adjusted intelligently after the break. By moving their playmaker into wider areas, they pulled Montecchio's midfield out of shape and created the space from which the equaliser came. From that point on, the visitors controlled the tempo and looked the calmer, more composed side.

Standout players

Montecchio's goalscoring midfielder was the sharpest player on the pitch in the first half, timing his runs perfectly and taking his goal with real quality. Their goalkeeper also deserves credit for a crucial second-half save. For Foligno, the attacking midfielder dictated play after the interval and was central to the equalising move, while their central defender produced a series of important interventions as the hosts pushed late on.

What the draw means

Both clubs will take something from the night, though neither will be entirely satisfied. Montecchio Maggiore showed they can compete physically and create chances, but the failure to hold onto a lead will frustrate a coach who values game management. Foligno, meanwhile, demonstrated character in coming from behind away from home, a trait that will serve them well across a long Serie D season.

In the wider context of the table, a point keeps both sides moving steadily rather than making a dramatic leap. With the campaign still in its early weeks, results like this one often define mid-table ambitions — and both teams will feel there is more to come.

Montecchio Maggiore next face a testing away trip, while Foligno return home determined to convert promising performances into maximum points.
