Milazzo edged Modica 1-0 in Italian Serie D on 25 October 2026, with a second-half goal proving enough in a tightly contested match. The home side had to defend diligently in the final stages, but their discipline and game management secured a narrow but valuable victory.

Match overview

The first half was cautious, with both teams prioritising defensive shape and limiting space in the final third. Modica looked comfortable in possession without creating clear-cut chances, while Milazzo grew into the game by pressing higher after the interval. The breakthrough came from a moment of quality, and Milazzo then protected their advantage with a compact and organised finish.

Key moments

• 31st minute: Modica produced the first serious effort on goal, forcing a save from a low drive outside the box.
• 67th minute: Milazzo took the lead through Salvatore Costa, who controlled a pass inside the area and finished across the goalkeeper.
• 78th minute: Modica responded with a header from a corner, but the attempt cleared the crossbar.
• 90th minute: Milazzo defended a late free kick to preserve the clean sheet and the three points.

Tactical story

Milazzo’s success came from a disciplined defensive structure and a willingness to press at the right moments. Modica moved the ball well in midfield but struggled to find space behind the home back line. Once Milazzo scored, they dropped slightly deeper and invited pressure, yet their shape remained compact enough to limit clear sights of goal.

Standout players

Costa’s winning goal was the decisive contribution, showing good control and composure in a crowded penalty area. Milazzo’s goalkeeper was also important in the closing stages, while Modica’s centre-backs largely defended well but were undone by one lapse in concentration.

Season impact

The win strengthens Milazzo’s position and highlights their ability to win matches without dominating possession. For Modica, the defeat is a narrow one, but the lack of a cutting edge in the final third will be the main point of review after a game that was there for the taking.
