Francavilla improved late on and pulled one back, but Melfi managed the closing stages with composure.

Key moments

Tactical story

Melfi set up in a 4-4-2 and dominated the central areas, with their two strikers dropping deep to link play and create overloads. Francavilla struggled to build from the back and were often reduced to long balls. After conceding the second goal, Francavilla switched to a three-man defence and pushed extra bodies forward, which led to their late goal. However, Melfi’s back line held firm under pressure, clearing several dangerous crosses in the final minutes.

Standout players

Alessandro Ricci was Melfi’s most influential player, scoring the opener and constantly finding space between the lines. Davide Santoro’s energy in midfield was equally important, and his goal capped a complete performance. For FC Francavilla, Matteo Greco showed fighting spirit and took his header well, but he was often isolated in attack.

Table and season impact

Melfi’s win keeps them in touch with the early promotion contenders in Serie D, while FC Francavilla remain in need of a positive run to climb the table. The result highlights the value of home form in this division, and Melfi will be confident of building momentum. Francavilla, meanwhile, must address their slow starts if they are to turn narrow defeats into points.
