Manfredonia 1-0 Bisceglie 1913: Derby Delight for Hosts in Serie D

Manfredonia edged past local rivals Bisceglie 1913 with a narrow 1-0 victory in Italian Serie D on Sunday, October 4, 2026. A first-half goal from striker Antonio Ruggiero was enough to separate the two Puglian sides in a tense, hard-fought encounter at the Stadio Miramare.

The match was billed as a crucial mid-table clash, and it lived up to its billing with plenty of commitment and a few flashes of quality. Manfredonia started the brighter and were rewarded in the 31st minute when Ruggiero pounced on a defensive mistake and fired low into the bottom corner.

Key Moments

• 31' – Antonio Ruggiero scores the only goal of the game, finishing coolly after a misjudged backpass.
• 45+2' – Bisceglie's best chance of the first half falls to Marco De Lucia, but his header is saved.
• 67' – Manfredonia goalkeeper Luca Santoro denies Bisceglie's Andrea Bianco with a strong one-handed save.
• 89' – Bisceglie push bodies forward but a last-ditch block from captain Giuseppe Ferrara preserves the clean sheet.

Bisceglie grew into the game after the break, with coach Vincenzo Marra making attacking substitutions. However, they found Manfredonia's defence in resilient mood, with Ferrara and Matteo Rinaldi outstanding at the heart of the back four.

Tactical Story

Manfredonia lined up in a 4-3-3, pressing high and forcing Bisceglie into long balls. The visitors switched to a 4-2-3-1 after the interval, looking to overload the flanks, but Manfredonia's midfield trio of Francesco Paolo, Simone Ricci, and Alessio Greco worked tirelessly to shield the defence.

The game became scrappy in the final 20 minutes, with both sides guilty of giving away possession. Bisceglie's best route back into the match was through set pieces, but Manfredonia defended their box with discipline and no little courage.

Standout Players

Antonio Ruggiero was the match-winner and his movement caused problems all afternoon. Luca Santoro made two crucial saves, while Giuseppe Ferrara led by example. For Bisceglie, Andrea Bianco was lively after coming off the bench.

Season Impact

Manfredonia climb to eighth in the Serie D standings, level on points with the play-off places. Bisceglie remain just above the relegation zone and will need to improve their away form to pull clear. The two sides will meet again in the return fixture, where Bisceglie will seek revenge.
