Ligorna edged past ACSD Saluzzo 2-1 in an Italian Serie D encounter on 4 October 2026, recovering from a slow start to claim a narrow home win that was built on a much-improved second-half performance.

Match Overview

Saluzzo began the game with purpose and took the lead, catching Ligorna cold with a direct attacking move that exposed space behind the home full-backs. The visitors looked comfortable for long spells of the first half, defending in numbers and threatening on the break.

Ligorna regrouped after the interval, raising the tempo and pushing their wingers higher up the pitch. The equaliser arrived through sustained pressure, and the winner followed soon after, sending the home supporters into celebration and leaving Saluzzo to rue a missed opportunity.

Key Moments

• Saluzzo's opener: a swift counter-attack finished with a first-time strike from the edge of the area.
• Ligorna's equaliser: a deep cross was headed back across goal and converted from close range after a scramble.
• The decisive goal: Ligorna's substitute made an immediate impact, arriving late in the box to steer home the winner.
• Late defending: Saluzzo threw men forward in search of a leveller, but Ligorna's back four held firm through five minutes of stoppage time.

Tactical Story

The match turned on Ligorna's half-time adjustments. In the first period their midfield sat too deep, allowing Saluzzo to build through the middle and find runners in behind. By pushing one midfielder higher and using the full-backs more aggressively, Ligorna stretched the visitors' defensive block and created the overloads that produced both goals.

Saluzzo's game plan was disciplined and, for 45 minutes, effective. Their compact 4-4-2 frustrated Ligorna and their counter-attacks carried real menace. The problem was stamina and squad depth: as the second half wore on, the gaps between their defensive and midfield lines grew wider, and Ligorna exploited them ruthlessly.

Standout Performers

Ligorna's substitute changed the match, adding energy and a genuine goal threat in the final third. Their captain in central defence was also excellent, reading danger and clearing several dangerous deliveries. Saluzzo's goalkeeper produced a string of saves to keep his side in contention, while their lone striker held the ball up well against physical opposition.

What It Means

The win lifts Ligorna's momentum and underlines the value of a deep bench in a league where matches are frequently decided in the final twenty minutes. Saluzzo leave with nothing despite a promising display, and will need to convert strong first-half performances into results if they are to climb the Serie D standings consistently this season.
