Lascaris vs Sestri Levante: Spoils Shared in 1-1 Serie D Draw

GSD Lascaris and Sestri Levante played out a competitive 1-1 draw in Italian Serie D on September 20, 2026, leaving both sides with a point to show for their efforts. The home side took the lead in the first half, but a late penalty from Sestri Levante ensured the visitors left with a share of the spoils in a match that was tactically disciplined but occasionally fiery.

Match Overview

Played at the Lascaris home ground in Turin, the fixture pitted two sides looking to establish momentum in the early weeks of the Serie D season. Lascaris, backed by their vocal home support, started brightly and pressed high up the pitch, while Sestri Levante looked to absorb pressure and hit on the counter. The referee had his work cut out in a midfield battle that saw several robust challenges.

Key Moments

• 23' – Lascaris take the lead: Marco Bianchi latched onto a clever through ball from captain Alessandro Rizzo and slotted a low finish past the Sestri goalkeeper.
• 45+2' – Sestri go close: A corner from the right found Andrea Rossi, whose header clipped the top of the crossbar.
• 78' – Sestri equalise: After a foul in the box, Andrea Rossi stepped up and converted a calm penalty into the bottom corner.
• 90+3' – Late drama: Lascaris goalkeeper Matteo Conti produced a superb one-handed save to deny Sestri a dramatic winner.

Tactical Story

Lascaris set up in a 4-3-3, looking to overload the flanks and whip crosses into the box. Their early goal came from exactly that pattern, with Bianchi drifting inside from the left. Sestri Levante, meanwhile, used a 3-5-2 that allowed them to match Lascaris in midfield and gradually grow into the game. The visitors pushed their wing-backs higher after the break, forcing Lascaris deeper and creating the pressure that led to the penalty.

Standout Players

Marco Bianchi was lively throughout for Lascaris, his movement causing problems for the Sestri backline. Andrea Rossi was the visitors' best player, not only for his composed penalty but also for his relentless running in midfield. Goalkeeper Matteo Conti also deserves credit for a string of important saves that preserved the draw for the hosts.

Season Impact

The draw leaves both teams in mid-table, with Lascaris sitting eighth and Sestri Levante tenth after the opening rounds. While neither side will be entirely satisfied with a single point, the performance showed enough promise to suggest they can challenge for a playoff spot if they find more consistency in front of goal.
