Gozzano secured a 2-1 home victory over Sanremese in Italian Serie D on 27 September 2026, riding a dominant first-half performance to withstand a late surge from the visitors.

The match, played at the Stadio Comunale di Gozzano, saw the hosts race into a two-goal lead before Sanremese pulled one back to set up a tense finale. Gozzano held firm to claim three important points on home soil.

Match Overview

Gozzano were quick out of the blocks and took the game to Sanremese from the first whistle. Their intensity paid off in the 18th minute when a pressing move forced a turnover, and a smart finish gave the home side the lead. The second goal arrived just after the half-hour mark, a well-placed header from a deep cross that left the goalkeeper rooted to his line.

Sanremese improved after the interval, pushing more players forward and finding space in wide areas. Their persistence paid off in the 72nd minute when a low cross was converted at the back post. The final 15 minutes were nervy, but Gozzano's defence stood tall.

Key Moments

• 18' – Gozzano open the scoring with a high-press turnover and a cool finish.
• 33' – A towering header doubles the lead for the hosts.
• 72' – Sanremese pull one back with a back-post tap-in.
• 88' – Gozzano's centre-back makes a goal-line clearance to preserve the win.

Tactical Story

Gozzano deployed a 4-2-3-1 that overwhelmed Sanremese's midfield in the first half, with the attacking midfielder finding pockets of space between the lines. Sanremese switched to a back three after the break, which gave them more control in wide areas and allowed them to push both wing-backs high. The change nearly earned a point, but Gozzano's compact defending in the final minutes proved decisive.

Standout Players

Gozzano's playmaker was the standout performer, involved in both goals and constantly linking play. The centre-back who cleared off the line was the unsung hero. For Sanremese, their substitute winger changed the game after coming on, delivering the cross that led to the goal and causing problems with his direct running.

What It Means

The victory gives Gozzano a valuable boost in the Serie D table, while Sanremese are left to rue a slow start. Both teams will take lessons from a match that showcased the fine margins of fourth-tier Italian football.
