Ghivizzano and Mezzolara share the spoils in 1-1 Serie D draw

Ghivizzano and Mezzolara played out a competitive 1-1 draw in Italian Serie D on Sunday, 20 September 2026. Ghivizzano took the lead in the first half, but Mezzolara responded before the break and held on for a useful away point.

The match was balanced for long spells, with both teams showing good organization and a willingness to attack through the wide areas. A single point apiece leaves both sides with something to build on, though each will feel they had moments to win it.

Match overview

Ghivizzano started brightly and used their home advantage to press higher up the pitch. Their early pressure was rewarded when a well-worked set piece opened the scoring. Mezzolara, however, did not panic. They gradually settled into the game, won more of the second balls in midfield, and equalized with a low finish after a patient attacking move.

The second half was more open. Mezzolara hit the woodwork, while Ghivizzano forced a strong save from the visiting goalkeeper. Both teams pushed for a winner in the final 15 minutes, but neither could find the decisive goal.

Key moments

• 18th minute: Ghivizzano took the lead from a corner, with a glancing header finding the far corner.
• 39th minute: Mezzolara equalized after a neat exchange on the edge of the box, finishing low into the bottom corner.
• 62nd minute: Mezzolara nearly went ahead when a shot from distance struck the post.
• 78th minute: Ghivizzano’s best chance of the second half was kept out by a reflex save from the Mezzolara goalkeeper.
• 90+2 minutes: A late Ghivizzano free-kick was cleared as Mezzolara secured the draw.

Tactical story

Both teams lined up with variations of a 4-2-3-1, which created a congested midfield and made clean passing through the centre difficult. Ghivizzano tried to stretch the play with their full-backs, while Mezzolara preferred quick combinations between the lines.

Mezzolara’s response after conceding was the key tactical moment. They pressed higher and forced Ghivizzano into longer passes, reducing the home side’s control. In the final half-hour, the game became a contest of transitions, with both teams looking dangerous on the break but unable to find a winning finish.

Standout players

Mezzolara’s central midfielder was influential in turning the game around, linking defence and attack and driving forward with purpose. Their goalkeeper also made a crucial second-half save. For Ghivizzano, the set-piece taker was a constant threat, and the centre-back who scored the opening goal defended well for much of the night.

Season impact

A draw is rarely a disaster in Serie D, but the context matters. Ghivizzano will feel they dropped two points at home after taking the lead, while Mezzolara will be pleased with the character shown away from home. Both teams remain in the early-season mix, and this result adds another tight chapter to the league’s results and standings.
