Follonica Gavorrano 1–1 Terranuova Traiana: All square in Tuscan derby

Follonica Gavorrano and ASD Terranuova Traiana shared the points in a 1–1 draw at the Stadio Romeo Malservisi-Mario Matteini on Sunday 11 October 2026. The Serie D Girone E clash produced an even contest between two Tuscan sides who know each other well, and a 21:00 kick-off ended with honours shared after both teams enjoyed spells of superiority.

The result leaves the two clubs level on points and keeps the local bragging rights unresolved until the return fixture later in the season.

Match overview

The opening exchanges were cagey, as is often the case in derbies where neither side wants to concede first. Terranuova Traiana settled the quicker, pressing high and forcing Follonica Gavorrano into several hurried clearances, and their early pressure produced the opening goal.

Follonica Gavorrano responded well, gradually working their way back into the game and finding an equaliser before the interval. The second half was more balanced, with both teams creating half-chances but neither able to find a winner, and the closing stages were played out with a certain mutual caution.

Key moments

• 17th minute: Terranuova Traiana took the lead, capitalising on a loose pass and finishing calmly past the goalkeeper.
• 31st minute: Follonica Gavorrano's first meaningful effort, a free kick that cleared the crossbar by inches.
• 43rd minute: The equaliser, a well-worked move down the left finished at the far post.
• 58th minute: A goal-line clearance kept the scores level after a corner caused chaos in the Terranuova box.
• 89th minute: Follonica Gavorrano's final chance, a header that drifted just wide with the goalkeeper beaten.

Tactical story

Terranuova Traiana's game plan was built on aggressive pressing in the opening half hour, snapping into challenges and looking to convert turnovers into quick attacks. It worked perfectly for the goal, but the intensity was difficult to maintain, and as the game wore on the visitors dropped deeper.

Follonica Gavorrano adjusted by using the width of the pitch more effectively, switching play from side to side to stretch a tiring opposition block. Their equaliser came from exactly that pattern of play. In the second half, both managers made attacking changes, but the defensive lines held firm and neither goalkeeper was seriously tested after the break.

Standout performers

Follonica Gavorrano's left-sided player was their most consistent threat, delivering several dangerous balls into the box and combining well with the overlapping full-back. Their equaliser came from that channel, and it was no coincidence.

Terranuova Traiana's goalscorer was sharp throughout the first half, and their central defenders recovered well after a difficult opening period to keep the hosts at bay in the final 30 minutes.

What the result means

Both clubs sit in the middle of a crowded Girone E table, level on points and separated only by goal difference. In a division where away draws are far from a disaster, Terranuova Traiana will travel home reasonably content, while Follonica Gavorrano will feel a home fixture against a direct rival was an opportunity missed.

The return match between the two is already circled in the calendars of both sets of supporters.
