Foligno Calcio suffered a frustrating 0-1 home defeat to ASD Giulianova in Italian Serie D on 18 October 2026, with a second-half goal and a disciplined away performance deciding a tightly contested match. Foligno enjoyed more possession but lacked the cutting edge to break down a well-organised Giulianova defence.

Match overview

The game developed into a classic possession-versus-counter contest. Foligno Calcio circulated the ball patiently and looked to create openings through their midfield, but Giulianova maintained a compact defensive block and limited clear sights of goal. The visitors grew in confidence as the first half wore on and began to threaten on the break.

The decisive moment arrived in the second half, when Giulianova converted one of their few clear chances. Foligno pushed forward in search of an equaliser, but Giulianova’s goalkeeper produced a string of important saves to preserve the clean sheet and secure a valuable away win.

Key moments

• 18 minutes: Foligno’s first real chance fell to their striker, but a last-ditch block kept the ball out.
• 34 minutes: Giulianova threatened on the counter, forcing a save from the Foligno goalkeeper.
• 67 minutes: Alessio Conti scored the only goal of the game, finishing calmly after a quick break down the right.
• 78 minutes: Foligno forced a superb save from Giacomo Rinaldi with a header from a corner.
• 90+2 minutes: A late Foligno scramble ended with the ball cleared off the line as Giulianova held on.

Tactical story

Foligno set up with a patient build-up, using their full-backs to stretch Giulianova’s defensive line. However, they often lacked runners in behind, allowing the visitors to defend the box comfortably. Giulianova sat in a deep 4-4-2 without the ball and looked to spring forward through their wide midfielders whenever they won possession.

The away side’s discipline was the key difference. They restricted Foligno to mostly speculative efforts from distance and defended crosses well. When Foligno did find space in the final third, Giulianova’s goalkeeper was alert and commanding. The visitors also managed the game smartly in the closing stages, slowing the tempo and taking the sting out of Foligno’s late pressure.

Standout players

Alessio Conti will take the headlines for his composed match-winning finish, while Giacomo Rinaldi was arguably Giulianova’s most important player with several vital saves. For Foligno, the midfield worked hard to control possession, but the forward line struggled to find rhythm against a stubborn back line.

Season impact

The win gives ASD Giulianova a timely boost and proves they can grind out results away from home in Serie D. For Foligno Calcio, the defeat is a reminder that possession without penetration is rarely enough. They remain a competitive side, but they will need to add more urgency and creativity in the final third if they are to turn home dominance into points.
