FC Obermais and AC Mestre played out an entertaining 2-2 draw in Italian Serie D on Sunday evening, with both sides sharing the spoils after a back-and-forth contest at the Stadio Comunale. The result leaves both teams still searching for consistency in the early stages of the season, but the four-goal thriller provided plenty of excitement for the fans in attendance.

Match Overview

• Fixture: FC Obermais vs AC Mestre
• Competition: Italian Serie D
• Date: 27 September 2026
• Kick-off: 21:00
• Final Score: FC Obermais 2-2 AC Mestre

Obermais started brightly and took the lead inside the first 20 minutes, but Mestre responded well and equalised before half-time. The second half was equally open, with both teams creating chances, and a late equaliser from Obermais ensured the points were shared in a match that could have gone either way.

Key Moments

Obermais opened the scoring in the 14th minute when winger Simone Gatto cut inside from the left and curled a beautiful shot into the far corner. Mestre equalised in the 32nd minute through a well-worked team move, finished off by striker Alessandro De Marchi from close range. The visitors then took the lead early in the second half when De Marchi turned provider, setting up midfielder Filippo Neri for a composed finish.

Obermais pressed for an equaliser and got their reward in the 78th minute. A corner from the right was only half-cleared, and centre-back Riccardo Fabbri lashed the ball home from 12 yards to make it 2-2. Both teams pushed for a winner in the dying minutes, but some resolute defending and a couple of wayward finishes meant the points were shared.

Tactical Story

Obermais set up in a 4-2-3-1, looking to use their wingers to stretch Mestre's defence. Mestre, meanwhile, opted for a 3-5-2, with their wing-backs providing width and overloading the midfield. The game became a tactical battle of width versus central dominance, and while Mestre controlled possession for large spells, Obermais were dangerous on the counter. Both defences looked shaky at times, which contributed to the four goals.

Standout Players

Alessandro De Marchi was the standout for AC Mestre, scoring one and assisting another with a lively performance up front. For Obermais, Simone Gatto was a constant threat on the wing, and Riccardo Fabbri showed composure to score the late equaliser. Mestre's midfielder Filippo Neri also impressed with his energy and goal, while Obermais goalkeeper Marco Silvestri made two important saves to keep his side in the game.

Serie D Standings and Season Impact

The draw leaves both teams in the middle of the Serie D standings, with Obermais and Mestre both showing promise but also defensive vulnerabilities. Obermais will be pleased with their fighting spirit to come back twice, while Mestre will feel they should have held on for the win. The head-to-head record between these two remains tight, and both will look to build on this performance in their next fixtures.
