Derthona and Asti played out a hard-fought 1-1 draw in Italian Serie D on 18 October 2026, with a late equaliser denying Derthona a home victory. In a match that kicked off at 21:00, the hosts controlled much of the first hour, but Asti’s response after the break earned them a deserved share of the points.

Match overview

Derthona set the tempo early, pressing high and forcing Asti into hurried clearances. The home side’s pressure eventually paid off midway through the first half, and for a long period they looked capable of adding a second. Asti stayed in the contest, though, and their improved second-half display was rewarded when a set-piece routine brought the equaliser.

Key moments

• 34 minutes: Derthona took the lead through Luca Ferrando, who arrived late in the box and finished a flowing move.
• 52 minutes: Asti began the second half with more purpose, forcing Derthona’s goalkeeper into a sharp save.
• 72 minutes: Andrea Gatti headed in from a corner to make it 1-1.
• 84 minutes: Derthona pushed for a winner, but Asti’s defence held firm under late pressure.

Tactical story

Derthona’s first-half performance was built on quick ball circulation and aggressive pressing, which disrupted Asti’s rhythm. However, the hosts dropped slightly deeper after taking the lead, inviting pressure. Asti responded by getting more bodies into the box and targeting set pieces. The tactical shift worked: the equaliser came from exactly the kind of delivery Derthona had struggled to defend in the closing stages.

Standout performers

Luca Ferrando was Derthona’s most influential player, combining energy with a well-taken goal. Andrea Gatti changed the game for Asti after coming on, providing a physical presence and scoring the equaliser. Both goalkeepers also made important saves, ensuring the match remained finely balanced.

Season impact

The point keeps both sides moving in a crowded Serie D table. Derthona will feel they let two points slip after a strong start, while Asti can take confidence from a resilient away performance. In a division where consistency is vital, draws like this can prove valuable at the end of the season — but Derthona will know that turning dominance into goals is the next step.
