Sanremese produced a ruthless attacking display to dismantle ASD Millesimo Calcio 5-1 in the Italian Serie D Cup, turning a potentially awkward cup tie into a statement of intent. Five goals, a dominant performance across both halves, and a place in the next round: it was exactly the kind of evening that builds confidence through a long season.

Match Overview

Sanremese, based in the Ligurian coastal town of Sanremo, entered the fixture as clear favourites against a Millesimo side from the province of Savona. Cup football so often delivers upsets, but Sanremese removed any doubt early with an aggressive, high-tempo start that pinned their opponents deep in their own half and set the tone for the night.

By the time Millesimo found a consolation goal, the contest had long since been decided. Sanremese's movement, combination play and finishing in the final third were simply a level above.

Key Moments

• Fast start: Sanremese opened the scoring early, settling any nerves and forcing Millesimo onto the back foot immediately.
• Doubling up: A second goal followed before the interval, the product of a slick passing move that carved open the visiting defence.
• Second-half surge: Sanremese added further goals after the break, keeping their intensity high rather than protecting the lead.
• Consolation: Millesimo grabbed a goal of their own, a reward for refusing to stop competing despite the scoreline.
• Five-star finish: The hosts completed the scoring to round off a comprehensive victory.

Tactical Story

Sanremese's approach was built on width and quick circulation. Their wide players stretched Millesimo's back line, creating space for central runners arriving in the box, and their midfield controlled the tempo, winning second balls and recycling possession efficiently. Every time Millesimo cleared their lines, the ball came straight back.

Millesimo's difficulties stemmed from being unable to hold possession long enough to relieve pressure. Forced into long clearances, they invited wave after wave of attacks, and defensive errors compounded as the game wore on. Their one bright moment came from a well-executed attacking move, showing the quality they can produce when they manage to establish a foothold.

Standout Performers

The most impressive aspect of Sanremese's performance was its collective nature: goals arrived from multiple sources rather than one relied-upon striker. The midfield dictated play from start to finish, the full-backs supported attacks relentlessly, and the defensive line stayed composed even when Millesimo pushed forward late. It was a complete team performance with no weak link.

What It Means

For Sanremese, a five-goal cup win is more than a result; it is a confidence boost and a signal of squad depth. Coaches value these nights because they give fringe players minutes, allow attacking patterns to be rehearsed under competitive conditions, and build momentum heading into league fixtures. Scoring five while conceding only one is the kind of balance every manager wants.

For ASD Millesimo Calcio, the evening was a harsh lesson but not a wasted one. Cup competitions regularly throw lower-ranked sides into fixtures against stronger opposition, and the experience of competing against a sharper, quicker opponent is valuable for development. Their focus now shifts to regrouping and carrying the lessons of this defeat into their league campaign.

Sanremese, meanwhile, advance in the Serie D Cup with a spring in their step and a growing reputation as one of the more dangerous attacking sides in the competition.
