Lentigione 1-3 Piacenza — Piacenza produced a professional away performance in the Italian Serie D Cup, overcoming Lentigione 3-1 to advance with a result that was built on efficiency in front of goal and composure under pressure.

Match overview

Lentigione made a competitive start in front of their own supporters and enjoyed spells of possession, but Piacenza's greater cutting edge told. The visitors struck at key moments, converting their best chances while restricting Lentigione to mostly speculative efforts from distance. A two-goal margin eventually reflected the difference in quality in the final third.

The game followed a familiar cup narrative: the underdog pressed and probed, the more experienced side absorbed the pressure and then punished the spaces left behind.

Key moments

• Piacenza take the lead: A slick attacking move carved open the Lentigione defence and the opening goal was finished with real assurance.
• Lentigione level terms: The hosts responded well, equalising to the delight of the home crowd and briefly swinging the momentum of the tie.
• Regaining the advantage: Piacenza restored their lead soon after, a goal that visibly deflated the home side's momentum.
• The clincher: A third goal in the second half settled the contest, arriving as Lentigione pushed numbers forward in search of an equaliser.

Tactical story

Piacenza set up with a disciplined defensive block and looked to spring forward quickly once possession was won. Their wide players stretched the pitch, creating one-on-one situations that Lentigione struggled to contain, while the central midfield duo screened the back four diligently.

Lentigione's approach was more patient, building through midfield and looking for overloads on the flanks. It worked well enough to create the equaliser, but the hosts' inability to keep the ball out of their own net during Piacenza's best spells proved decisive. Every time they gained momentum, they conceded.

Standout players

Piacenza's forward line was the story of the evening, with sharp movement and clinical finishing throughout. The midfielder who dictated the tempo of the visitors' counter-attacks was equally influential, repeatedly turning defence into attack with a single pass.

Lentigione's goalscorer was their most dangerous outlet, and the goalkeeper made two excellent saves to keep the scoreline respectable. The home captain led by example, but the team's finishing touch deserted them at the crucial moments.

What it means

For Piacenza, this is a routine but valuable cup win: a tricky away fixture negotiated with maturity, and another step forward in a competition that offers a genuine route to silverware. Lentigione's exit will sting, but their performance offered positives — the challenge now is converting encouraging spells of possession into goals in league play.
