ASD Sasso Marconi 1-0 Cittadella Vis Modena: Single Goal Settles Tight Cup Tie

ASD Sasso Marconi edged Cittadella Vis Modena 1-0 in a closely contested Italian Serie D Cup match on 7 October 2026. The 21:00 kickoff produced a disciplined, tactical encounter, and one decisive second-half moment was enough to separate the sides and send Sasso Marconi through.

In knockout football, clean sheets are often as valuable as goals, and Sasso Marconi delivered both. Their defensive organisation limited Cittadella Vis Modena to few clear opportunities, while the winning goal arrived from a well-executed attacking sequence.

Match Overview

The first half was largely a battle for control. Cittadella Vis Modena tried to build patiently from the back, while ASD Sasso Marconi pressed in midfield and looked to force turnovers. Chances were at a premium, with both defences alert to danger and quick to close down shooting lanes.

After the break, Sasso Marconi increased their intensity and began to find space between the lines. The game’s only goal came from that improved spell, and from then on the home side focused on protecting their lead. Cittadella Vis Modena pushed more players forward late on, but Sasso Marconi’s back line held firm.

Key Moments

• 24th minute: Cittadella Vis Modena created the first real opening, but a low shot from distance was gathered comfortably by the Sasso Marconi goalkeeper.
• 41st minute: Sasso Marconi went close from a set piece, with a header flashing just wide of the far post.
• 58th minute: The breakthrough arrived. A clever run into the penalty area was picked out, and the finish was placed beyond the goalkeeper to make it 1-0.
• 73rd minute: Cittadella Vis Modena’s best chance of the second half came from a cross, but the header was directed straight at the goalkeeper.
• 90+3 minutes: A final free-kick into the box was cleared away, confirming Sasso Marconi’s narrow win.

Tactical Story

ASD Sasso Marconi lined up with a compact defensive structure and looked to attack through quick combinations rather than long spells of possession. Their midfield worked hard to screen the back four, and the full-backs were disciplined about choosing when to advance.

Cittadella Vis Modena saw more of the ball in the second half but found it difficult to break down a well-organised opponent. Their best moments came from crosses and set pieces, yet Sasso Marconi dealt with the aerial threat well. The winning goal reflected the home side’s patience: they waited for a defensive gap and then exploited it with a precise final pass.

Standout Players

Sasso Marconi’s goalscorer will take the headlines, but the goalkeeper was equally important, making a handful of secure saves and commanding the penalty area. The central defenders won their duels and cleared several dangerous deliveries, while the holding midfielder broke up play effectively.

For Cittadella Vis Modena, the central midfielder was the main creative force, always looking to switch play and find runners. The centre-back pairing also performed well for long stretches, limiting Sasso Marconi’s chances until the decisive goal.

Cup Impact and What It Means

ASD Sasso Marconi 1-0 Cittadella Vis Modena is the kind of result that can build real momentum in the Italian Serie D Cup. It was not a flashy performance, but it was professional, tactically sound and ultimately successful. Sasso Marconi advance with a clean sheet and a growing sense of belief.

Cittadella Vis Modena exit knowing the match was decided by a single moment. They competed well for long periods and defended resolutely, but the lack of a cutting edge in the final third proved costly. In cup competition, that thin margin is often the difference between progress and elimination.
