Match overview

The visitors looked comfortable in the opening quarter, pressing intelligently and forcing the home side into rushed clearances. Cittadella, however, gradually found their footing. Their midfield began to win more second balls, and the equaliser arrived before half-time when a patient passing move created space on the edge of the box.

The second half was a more open affair. Cittadella Vis Modena pushed higher up the pitch, while Pistoiese looked dangerous on the counter. The decisive moment came late in the game, when the home side’s increased pressure told and a well-worked attack produced the winning goal.

• Cittadella Vis Modena equalised before half-time with a low strike from the edge of the box after sustained possession.

Tactical story

Cittadella Vis Modena’s recovery was built on a more aggressive second-half approach. Their midfield pressed higher, forcing Pistoiese to play longer passes and reducing the visitors’ ability to control possession. The home side also used their width better after the break, stretching the Pistoiese back line and creating room for late runners into the box.

Pistoiese remained compact and dangerous on the counter, but they were gradually pushed deeper. Their defence dealt with several crosses and set pieces, but the sustained pressure eventually created the opening for the winning goal. It was a performance that highlighted Cittadella’s resilience and their ability to adjust tactically within a match.

Standout performers

Cittadella Vis Modena’s central midfielder was the driving force behind the comeback, combining energy with careful distribution. The home side’s centre-forward also deserves credit for occupying the Pistoiese defenders and creating space for teammates. For Pistoiese, the goalkeeper kept them in the match with a string of saves, while their wide attacker was a constant counter-attacking threat.

Season impact

The three points are significant in the Serie D standings, giving Cittadella Vis Modena momentum and reinforcing their ability to win tight matches. For Pistoiese, the defeat is a frustrating one after a promising start, but their overall performance offered enough encouragement. In a division where consistency is crucial, Cittadella’s late winner could prove to be an important moment in their season.
