Cittadella Vis Modena fell to a frustrating 1-0 home defeat at the hands of Correggese Calcio in Italian Serie D on Sunday evening, as a solitary second-half strike decided a closely fought Emilia-Romagna clash. The visitors defended resolutely after taking the lead, leaving the home side to rue missed chances.

Match Overview

The first half was a cagey affair, with both sides cautious in possession. Cittadella Vis Modena saw more of the ball but struggled to create clear openings against a well-organised Correggese defence. The breakthrough came just after the hour mark, and from that point the visitors dropped deeper to protect their advantage.

Key Moments

• 63' – Correggese Calcio score the only goal of the game, a low shot from the edge of the area that finds the bottom corner.
• 71' – Cittadella Vis Modena's best chance falls to their No. 9, but his effort is blocked on the line.
• 88' – The home side appeals for a penalty, but the referee waves away the claims.

Tactical Story

Correggese set up to frustrate, with a compact 4-5-1 formation that limited space between the lines. Cittadella Vis Modena tried to stretch play through their full-backs, but the final ball was often lacking. As the game wore on, the home side became increasingly direct, but Correggese's centre-backs dealt comfortably with the aerial threat.

Standout Players

Correggese's goalscorer was the difference-maker, while their goalkeeper produced a commanding display. For Cittadella Vis Modena, the midfield captain never stopped running, but the team lacked a cutting edge in the final third. It was a night of frustration for the home supporters.

Serie D Table Impact

The result sees Correggese climb the Serie D Girone D standings, while Cittadella Vis Modena are left to reflect on a missed opportunity on home soil. Both sides will look to improve in their next fixtures as the season continues to take shape. For Correggese, it is a valuable away win that underlines their defensive resilience.
