Città di Anagni produced one of their most convincing performances of the Italian Serie D season, sweeping aside Atletico Calcio Afragolese 3-0 on Sunday evening with a clinical display in front of their home supporters.

Match overview

The 21:00 kick-off brought together a Lazio side eager to assert themselves at home and a Campanian outfit known for their battling qualities on the road. From the early stages, though, there was only one team dictating the terms.

Anagni pressed aggressively, moved the ball quickly through midfield and repeatedly found space behind the Afragolese full-backs. The visitors, forced onto the back foot, struggled to string together more than three or four passes in the attacking half and spent long periods chasing shadows.

Key moments

• Early breakthrough: Anagni took the lead inside the opening half hour, turning sustained pressure into a goal with a composed finish from the edge of the area.
• Doubling the advantage: The second arrived before the break, a reward for a swift counter-attack that exposed the visitors' high defensive line.
• Killing the contest: A third goal early in the second half ended any realistic hope of a comeback and allowed the hosts to manage the remainder of the game.
• Defensive steel: Afragolese's best moments came from set pieces, but Anagni's goalkeeper and centre-backs dealt with everything comfortably to secure the clean sheet.

Tactical story

Anagni's shape was the foundation of the win. With a disciplined double pivot protecting the defence, the full-backs were freed to push forward and provide width, pinning Afragolese deep in their own half. The front three rotated constantly, making it difficult for the visiting back line to maintain its marking assignments.

Afragolese, by contrast, never established a foothold. Their attempts to press high were bypassed by quick, vertical passing, and when they did win possession, the supporting runs were too slow to turn turnovers into meaningful attacks. By the hour mark, the game had the feel of a training exercise for the hosts.

Standout players

The Anagni forward line shared the plaudits, with two of the three goals coming from excellent individual positioning inside the penalty area. The midfield creator was arguably the man of the match, linking play intelligently and setting the tempo throughout. At the back, the goalkeeper's handling under late pressure preserved a deserved shutout.

For Atletico Calcio Afragolese, it was a night to forget. The stand-in defensive unit struggled with the pace of the game, and their most dangerous player was largely isolated on the flank for long stretches.

What it means for the table

A three-goal home win does wonders for both confidence and goal difference, two currencies that matter enormously in Serie D's tightly packed standings. Anagni will view this as a template for the weeks ahead: aggressive pressing, fast transitions and ruthless finishing.

Afragolese leave with questions to answer, particularly about their defensive organisation away from home. The margin of defeat was harsh, but the performance underlined the gap between the two sides on the night — and the importance of responding quickly before a difficult run of results takes hold.
