Certosa Vigor Campagnano edged a tense, hard-fought Rome derby on Sunday 20 September 2026, defeating Atletico Lodigiani 1-0 in Italian Serie D. A single goal was enough to settle a contest short on clear chances but rich in intensity, and it sends the home side away with three precious points from a fixture that has quickly become a competitive local rivalry.

Played under the lights with a kick-off at 21:00, the match reflected everything that makes Girone G such a demanding division: tight marking, physical duels in midfield, and margins decided by a single moment of quality.

Match overview

Certosa Vigor Campagnano began the brighter of the two sides, pressing aggressively and forcing Atletico Lodigiani into early errors in their own half. The visitors took time to find their rhythm but gradually grew into the game, moving the ball with more purpose through the middle and drawing a couple of routine saves from the home goalkeeper.

The decisive moment came during a period of sustained pressure from the hosts. A well-worked attacking sequence ended with a finish from inside the penalty area that found the net, and the goal changed the complexion of the match entirely. Atletico Lodigiani were suddenly required to chase, and the game became a test of whether they could break down a resolute defensive block.

They could not. Certosa Vigor Campagnano defended their advantage with maturity, dropping their lines slightly, winning their aerial duels and managing the closing stages intelligently rather than sitting deep and inviting wave after wave of pressure.

Key moments

• The only goal: A patient build-up down the right ended with a composed finish to put Certosa Vigor Campagnano 1-0 up.
• A disallowed chance: Atletico Lodigiani had the ball in the net midway through the second half, but the flag was up for offside.
• Late scramble: A stoppage-time corner caused brief panic in the home box before being hacked clear.
• Game management: The hosts used substitutions well, introducing fresh legs in wide areas to keep Lodigiani's full-backs pinned back.

Tactical story

This was a classic Serie D derby decided in midfield. Certosa Vigor Campagnano lined up with two disciplined holding players who screened the back four effectively and rarely allowed Atletico Lodigiani's creative players to receive the ball facing goal. When the visitors did get into wide areas, the crosses were contested by a physically imposing centre-back pairing.

Atletico Lodigiani's best spells came when they switched the play quickly and attacked the space behind the home full-backs. However, their final-third decision-making was inconsistent, and too many promising positions ended in blocked shots or overhit deliveries. The substitutions made by the visitors added energy but not the required cutting edge.

Standout players

The goalscorer will take the headlines, but the home side's holding midfielder was the quiet architect of the win, controlling tempo and covering enormous ground. The goalkeeper also deserves credit for a composed performance, dealing with crosses confidently and marshalling the defence through a nervy final ten minutes.

For Atletico Lodigiani, the central defender who repeatedly stepped out of the line to intercept was their most impressive performer, while the substitute winger introduced after the hour mark caused genuine problems with his direct running.

What it means for the Serie D table

Derby wins carry double value in Serie D. Beyond the three points, this result builds belief inside a Certosa Vigor Campagnano squad that will need to be resilient across a long, demanding campaign. Keeping a clean sheet against a local rival is the kind of detail that often defines where a team finishes in the standings.

Atletico Lodigiani will feel the scoreline was harsh on the balance of play, but the lesson is a familiar one at this level: away days are won by taking chances, and the visitors will need to sharpen their finishing if they are to climb the table in the coming weeks.
