Celle Varazze were beaten 2-0 at home by Ligorna in Italian Serie D on Sunday evening, as the visitors produced a clinical away performance to take all three points. Two well-taken goals and a disciplined defensive display left the home side frustrated on their own ground.

Match Overview

Ligorna arrived with a clear plan and executed it with impressive maturity. Rather than dominating possession, the visitors sat in a well-organised mid-block, absorbed pressure and then attacked with purpose whenever Celle Varazze committed players forward.

The home side saw plenty of the ball but struggled to turn that territory into clear chances. Their build-up play was neat enough in the middle third, yet the final pass repeatedly went astray or was cut out by a defence that read the game exceptionally well.

Key Moments

• 27th minute – Ligorna take the lead with their first meaningful attack, a sweeping move from right to left finished with a composed strike into the bottom corner.
• 41st minute – Celle Varazze's best chance of the match, a header from a corner that goes narrowly over the bar.
• 58th minute – The visitors double their advantage, punishing a loose pass in midfield with a rapid counter finished first time.
• 74th minute – A goal-line clearance denies Celle Varazze a route back into the game.
• 89th minute – Ligorna manage the closing minutes comfortably, keeping the ball in the corners and running down the clock.

Tactical Story

This was a textbook away performance. Ligorna conceded possession without ever conceding control, staying compact between the lines and forcing Celle Varazze to play in front of them rather than through them. Their two goals both came from transitions, underlining just how well the game plan worked.

Celle Varazze, for their part, were guilty of being too patient in the wrong moments. With Ligorna happy to defend deep, the home side needed to stretch the pitch more aggressively and take risks earlier. By the time they increased the tempo, the visitors were already two goals ahead and comfortably set in their defensive shape.

Standout Players

Ligorna's midfield anchor was the outstanding individual on the pitch, breaking up play, launching counters and setting the tempo of his team's disciplined display. Both goalscorers showed composure in front of goal, while the centre-back pairing dealt with everything thrown into the box.

For Celle Varazze, the goalkeeper made two important saves to prevent a heavier defeat, and the captain worked tirelessly in midfield to try to generate forward momentum, but genuine service into the strikers was desperately lacking.

Table and Season Impact

An away win of this quality is worth more than just three points. Ligorna leave with confidence in their structure and a reminder that they can compete with anyone in Girone A when they defend as a unit. If they can replicate this level of discipline on their travels, they will be a difficult side to dislodge from the upper half of the table.

Celle Varazze are left with uncomfortable questions about their home form. Creating chances has become a problem, and the margin for error at the wrong end of the standings is slim. Turning possession into goals will be the priority in the weeks ahead if they are to climb away from danger.
