Gozzano claimed a 2-1 away victory over Celle Varazze in Italian Serie D on 28 October 2026, producing a composed second-half performance to take all three points from a hard-fought contest.

Celle Varazze made a positive start in front of their home support and took the game to Gozzano early on, but the visitors grew into the match and eventually turned the scoreline in their favour. The result gives Gozzano a valuable away win in Serie D, while Celle Varazze are left to reflect on a game in which they competed well but were ultimately undone by Gozzano’s efficiency in the key moments.

Match overview

The opening phase was played at a good tempo, with Celle Varazze pressing high and looking to force mistakes in Gozzano’s build-up. The home side’s direct running and willingness to play forward created some early half-chances, and their reward arrived when they took the lead. Gozzano responded well, though, settling into the game and gradually imposing their own rhythm through midfield.

Gozzano’s equaliser changed the mood of the contest. The visitors began to find space between the lines and used the width of the pitch to stretch Celle Varazze’s defensive shape. After the break, Gozzano looked the more composed side, managing possession better and creating the clearer opportunities. The decisive goal came in the second half, and from that point on the visitors defended their advantage with maturity, limiting Celle Varazze’s chances of a response.

Key moments

• Celle Varazze take the lead: The home side’s bright start was rewarded with the opening goal, giving them confidence and the home crowd a lift.
• Gozzano respond before the break: The visitors found an equaliser as their midfield began to control the tempo and their forwards found space in the final third.
• Second-half winner: Gozzano completed the turnaround after the interval, capitalising on a defensive lapse and finishing with composure.
• Late pressure absorbed: Celle Varazze pushed bodies forward in search of a leveller, but Gozzano’s back line held firm and managed the closing stages well.

Tactical story

Celle Varazze’s approach was built on energy and directness. They pressed aggressively in the early stages and tried to turn Gozzano’s possession into quick attacking transitions. It worked well for a spell, and the home side’s lead was a fair reflection of their early intent. However, as the game settled, Gozzano’s midfield began to win the second balls and dictate where the match was played.

Gozzano’s willingness to be patient in possession proved crucial. They did not panic after falling behind, instead working the ball into wide areas and waiting for openings to appear. Their second-half performance was characterised by better game management: they slowed the tempo when needed, kept the ball in the opposition half, and ensured Celle Varazze had to expend energy chasing. The visitors’ ability to defend their lead in the final stages was just as important as their attacking play earlier in the match.

Standout performers

Gozzano’s midfield was central to the comeback, providing control and composure after a difficult opening period. Their attacking players showed good movement and link-up play, while the goalscorer’s finish for the winner underlined the visitors’ cutting edge. At the back, Gozzano’s defenders dealt with Celle Varazze’s late aerial pressure and gave the team a solid platform to protect the result.

For Celle Varazze, the early energy and the opening goal were the highlights of an encouraging first-half display. Their midfield pressed well and their forward line caused problems in transition, but the home side could not maintain the same level of control after Gozzano equalised. The performance showed promise, but the result will serve as a reminder of the fine margins in Serie D.

Serie D impact

This 2-1 away win is a meaningful result for Gozzano, who showed the kind of resilience and tactical discipline that can prove decisive over the course of a Serie D campaign. Taking three points from a difficult away fixture strengthens their momentum and gives them a platform for the matches ahead. Celle Varazze, meanwhile, will need to turn promising spells into more complete performances, particularly at home, where points are especially valuable.

The match also highlighted the competitiveness of Italian Serie D, where games are often decided by small details: a well-timed press, a set-piece, or a single moment of quality in the final third. Gozzano’s ability to respond to adversity and manage the game after taking the lead was the difference on the night, while Celle Varazze will take encouragement from their first-half display as they look to bounce back in their next outing.
