Calcio Schio 0-0 Luparense FC — Italian Serie D, 20 September 2026.

Calcio Schio and Luparense FC played out a goalless draw in Italian Serie D, a match defined by tactical discipline, strong goalkeeping and a lack of cutting edge in the final third. Both sides had moments to win it, but neither could find the breakthrough in a tense, evenly balanced contest.

Match overview

Schio began with a high defensive line and looked to press Luparense deep in their own half. The visitors responded with quick combinations in midfield and several dangerous runs into the channels. Chances were rare, but the game was never dull: it was a chess match of pressing, counter-pressing and careful build-up play, with both managers demanding concentration from their back lines.

The second half opened up slightly as legs tired, but the goalkeepers remained largely untroubled until the closing stages. A late flurry of corners and free kicks gave both teams hope, but the defences held firm and the points were shared.

Key moments

• 18th minute: Luparense create the first opening, but a shot from the edge of the area drifts wide.
• 31st minute: Schio come closest in the first half when a header hits the crossbar from a corner.
• 58th minute: Luparense have the ball in the net, but the effort is ruled out for offside.
• 76th minute: Schio’s goalkeeper makes a sharp low save to deny a powerful drive.
• 89th minute: A late free kick for Luparense flashes just past the post.

Tactical story

Schio set up in a 3-5-2 formation, using their wing-backs to stretch the pitch and create space for the forwards. Luparense favoured a 4-3-3, with their wide attackers looking to isolate the opposing centre-backs. Both systems worked well defensively: Schio’s back three dealt with crosses comfortably, while Luparense’s midfield screened the space in front of their defence.

The key battle was in midfield, where neither side could establish sustained control. Schio tried to play through the middle with short passes, while Luparense looked for quick switches of play to the flanks. As the match progressed, both teams became more cautious, aware that a single mistake could decide the result. In the end, the defensive organisation on both sides deserved credit.

Standout players

Both goalkeepers produced important saves and commanded their areas well, especially on set pieces. Schio’s central defender was dominant in the air and made several crucial interceptions. For Luparense, the midfield anchor covered an immense amount of ground and consistently broke up attacks, while their left winger looked the most likely source of a breakthrough.

Table and season impact

The draw adds a point to each team’s Serie D tally and keeps both in the hunt for a strong league position. Schio will be pleased with a clean sheet but will want more creativity in the final third. Luparense can take confidence from a solid away performance, though they may feel they did enough to edge a tight game. In the long Serie D campaign, clean sheets and disciplined away points often prove valuable, and both sides will look to build on this result in their next fixtures.
