Serie D fixtures between Sicilian clubs often carry extra weight, and this was no exception. Athletic Palermo wanted to assert their authority early, while Milazzo hoped to frustrate the hosts and hit on the counter.

How the Game Unfolded

Athletic Palermo took the lead in the 22nd minute when Salvatore Randazzo found space on the edge of the box and drilled a low shot into the bottom corner. The goal settled the home side, who began to move the ball with confidence and create chances at regular intervals.

Randazzo doubled his tally in the 58th minute, finishing off a sweeping team move that started with a turnover in midfield. Milazzo struggled to contain the hosts’ attacking rotations, and the game was effectively put beyond doubt in the 74th minute when Giuseppe Costa headed in a corner from six yards out.

Milazzo’s best chance came late on, but a combination of poor finishing and a solid save from the Athletic Palermo goalkeeper preserved the clean sheet. The final whistle confirmed a dominant 3-0 win for the home side.

Key Moments

• 22' – Goal: Salvatore Randazzo opens the scoring with a precise low strike.
• 58' – Goal: Randazzo completes his brace after a flowing team move.
• 74' – Goal: Giuseppe Costa heads home from a corner to make it 3-0.
• 86' – Save: Athletic Palermo’s goalkeeper denies Milazzo a consolation goal.

Tactical Story

Athletic Palermo set up with an aggressive 4-3-3 and pressed Milazzo high up the pitch. Their midfield trio won the battle for second balls, allowing the wingers to isolate the full-backs and deliver dangerous crosses. The movement of Randazzo between the lines was particularly difficult for Milazzo to handle.

Milazzo, by contrast, sat deep in a 4-4-2 and looked to spring counterattacks. However, their transitions were too slow, and they often lost possession before reaching the final third. Defensively, they struggled with set-pieces and were punished for failing to track runners in the box.

Standout Players

Salvatore Randazzo was the clear man of the match, scoring twice and linking play intelligently. Giuseppe Costa added a goal and was dominant in the air at both ends. In midfield, Athletic Palermo’s captain controlled the tempo and ensured Milazzo never gained a foothold in the game.

What the Result Means

The three points lift Athletic Palermo in the Serie D standings and provide a significant confidence boost ahead of their next fixtures. For Milazzo, the defeat highlights the need for more defensive solidity and better decision-making in possession. In a league where every point matters, this Sicilian derby win could prove an important moment in Athletic Palermo’s season.
