ASD Tau Calcio Altopascio edged ASD Sasso Marconi 2-1 in Italian Serie D on the evening of 25 October 2026, turning a tight contest into three valuable points with a decisive late goal at home. In a match that swung between controlled possession and quick transitions, Tau Calcio Altopascio found the extra bit of quality in the final third when it mattered most.

The result gives the home side a welcome boost in the Serie D standings and reinforces the importance of their form on familiar ground. Sasso Marconi, meanwhile, left with nothing despite a competitive performance that kept the game in the balance until the closing stages.

Match overview

Tau Calcio Altopascio started with purpose, pressing high and forcing Sasso Marconi into early mistakes in midfield. The home side’s wide players were heavily involved, stretching the opposition back line and creating space between the full-backs and centre-backs. That pressure produced the opening goal and gave the match an early rhythm.

Sasso Marconi responded well rather than folding. They slowed the tempo, defended in a compact block and began to find joy on the counterattack. Their equaliser before half-time changed the mood of the contest and ensured that Tau could not settle into comfortable control after the break.

Key moments

• Opening goal: Tau Calcio Altopascio broke the deadlock after a spell of sustained pressure, working the ball into a dangerous wide area before converting from close range.
• Sasso Marconi equaliser: The visitors struck back before the interval, capitalising on a set-piece situation and reacting quickest to a loose ball inside the box.
• Late winner: With the match heading toward a draw, Tau found the decisive moment in the final quarter of the game, finishing a flowing move to make it 2-1.

Tactical story

Tau Calcio Altopascio’s approach was built on quick ball circulation and aggressive pressing. Their midfield trio looked to win second balls and release the wide forwards early, while the full-backs pushed on to create overloads. That strategy worked best in the first half and again late on, when Sasso Marconi began to tire.

Sasso Marconi were at their most dangerous when they sat deeper and attacked in transition. Their compact 4-4-2 shape limited central space, and their best chances came from wide deliveries and quick breaks. However, the visitors struggled to maintain possession for long enough to relieve pressure, and that eventually told in the closing stages.

Standout performers

Tau’s central midfielder was central to the win, setting the tempo and repeatedly recovering possession in advanced areas. The home side’s wide forward also caused problems throughout, while the match-winning move showcased the kind of patience and movement that had been missing in some of their earlier attacks.

For Sasso Marconi, the goalkeeper kept the scoreline level for long periods and produced important saves either side of the equaliser. The defensive unit also deserved credit for surviving several spells of heavy pressure, even if the late goal ultimately proved decisive.

What the result means

For Tau Calcio Altopascio, the 2-1 win is more than just a single result. It is a statement of home strength and a reminder that the side can find answers in tight Serie D matches. The three points will improve their position in the table and give the squad confidence heading into the next round of fixtures.

Sasso Marconi will take encouragement from the performance but will be frustrated by the outcome. They competed well for long stretches and showed enough attacking intent to suggest that better results are within reach. Still, in a league where fine margins decide so much, conceding late away from home is a difficult way to finish the night.
