ASD Tau Calcio Altopascio claimed a thrilling 3-2 victory over ASD Rondinella Marzocco at the Stadio Comunale on Sunday evening, in a match that swung one way and then the other. The win moves Tau Calcio into the upper reaches of Serie D, while Rondinella Marzocco are left to rue a late surge that fell just short.

Match Overview

Tau Calcio Altopascio began the game with intent, lining up in a 4-3-3 formation that looked to exploit the flanks. Rondinella Marzocco responded with a 4-4-2, hoping to stifle their hosts through a compact midfield. The opening exchanges were frenetic, with both teams showing attacking ambition.

Key Moments

Tau Calcio took the lead in the 18th minute when Riccardo Lombardi cut inside from the left and curled a shot into the far corner. They doubled their advantage in the 39th minute through Matteo Gori, who tapped in from close range after a slick team move. Rondinella pulled one back just before the hour mark when Tommaso Galli headed home a cross. However, Tau Calcio restored their two-goal cushion in the 71st minute as Lombardi scored his second, finishing off a counter-attack. Rondinella set up a tense finale when Luca Neri scored a penalty in the 88th minute, but Tau Calcio held on.

Tactical Story

Tau Calcio's 4-3-3 caused Rondinella problems all evening, with their wingers isolating the full-backs. Rondinella's midfield struggled to track the late runs from deep, which led to the first two goals. After the break, Rondinella switched to a 3-5-2 to gain more control, and it worked to an extent, but they were always chasing the game. Tau Calcio's manager praised his team's "clinical counter-attacking," while Rondinella's coach felt his side "showed character but defended too naively."

Standout Players

Riccardo Lombardi was the star of the show with two well-taken goals and a constant threat on the left wing. Matteo Gori also impressed with his movement and link-up play. For Rondinella, Tommaso Galli was a handful in the air, and Luca Neri showed composure from the spot.

Season Impact

Tau Calcio Altopascio climb to fifth in the Serie D standings, just two points off the promotion playoff places. Rondinella Marzocco remain in the lower half of the table and will need to tighten up defensively if they are to move clear of danger. Tau Calcio's next match is against a fellow promotion hopeful, while Rondinella face a relegation six-pointer.
