ASD Rondinella Marzocco claimed a hard-fought 2-1 victory over SCD Progresso Calcio on Sunday evening, with a late goal from substitute Benvenuti settling a Serie D contest that had looked destined for a draw. In front of a lively home crowd, the Florentine side produced arguably their most complete home performance of the campaign so far, combining early attacking intent with the resilience to respond after being pegged back.

Match Overview

Rondinella started brightly and were rewarded inside the opening quarter of an hour, taking the lead through Innocenti after a well-worked move down the right. The goal gave the hosts control of the tempo, but Progresso grew into the game and found a deserved equaliser just before the hour mark when Tagliavini finished off a patient passing sequence.

From that point the match became a test of nerve. Both sides had spells of pressure, both managers made attacking substitutions, and it was Rondinella's bench that made the difference — Benvenuti arriving to score the winner six minutes from time and send the home supporters into celebration.

Key Moments

• 14' — 1-0: Innocenti finishes a flowing move for Rondinella Marzocco
• 57' — 1-1: Tagliavini equalises for SCD Progresso Calcio
• 84' — 2-1: Substitute Benvenuti scores the winning goal

The equaliser momentarily rattled the hosts, who lost their rhythm for a ten-minute period and were forced into two important defensive interventions inside their own penalty area. But Rondinella regrouped, pushed their full-backs higher and eventually found the breakthrough when a low cross was only half-cleared and Benvenuti swept the loose ball home.

Tactical Story

Rondinella lined up with a narrow midfield three designed to dominate the central areas, and for long periods it worked — Progresso were forced to circulate the ball sideways rather than through the lines. The visitors' response was to overload the flanks, and their equaliser came from precisely that pattern, with a switch of play followed by a quick combination on the left.

The decisive tactical adjustment belonged to the home bench. By introducing a more direct forward and stretching the pitch late on, Rondinella stopped Progresso's compact defensive block from sitting comfortably, creating the space that produced the winning goal. It was a substitution that changed the shape of the result, not just the personnel.

Standout Players

Innocenti was Rondinella's most influential player, linking midfield and attack and taking his goal with composure. Benvenuti needed only a handful of touches to leave his mark on the game. In defence, captain Lorenzo Fabbri led by example, winning the majority of his aerial duels and clearing dangerously on two separate occasions.

For Progresso, Tagliavini was the brightest performer — tireless in pressing and rewarded with his side's only goal. Central defender Alessio Montanari also impressed with a disciplined display before being withdrawn in the final stages.

Season Impact

The win lifts Rondinella Marzocco into a healthier position in the Serie D standings and extends an encouraging home record that could underpin a push towards the upper half of the table. Progresso Calcio leave with nothing despite a competitive display, and their recent run of narrow results underlines a familiar problem: they are difficult to beat, but they are not yet converting good performances into points.
