Anzio Calcio 1924 claimed a solid 2-0 victory over Certosa Vigor Campagnano in Italian Serie D action on Sunday evening, delivering a controlled performance in front of their home supporters. The hosts scored in each half and managed the game impressively after taking the lead, keeping a clean sheet that will please the coaching staff as much as the goals at the other end.

Match Overview

Serie D football is famously unforgiving — long journeys, tight pitches and physical opponents — and Anzio Calcio 1924 handled the occasion with the maturity of a side that knows exactly what it needs to do at home. From the first whistle the hosts pressed with purpose, winning the ball high and forcing Certosa Vigor Campagnano into rushed clearances.

Certosa Vigor Campagnano, for their part, showed why they are difficult to break down for long periods. They defended in numbers, kept their shape well and looked to counter through the channels. But the decisive moments went Anzio's way, and once the second goal arrived the outcome was never seriously in doubt.

Key Moments

• First half breakthrough: Anzio opened the scoring with a move that started on the left flank, the ball worked into the box and finished with composure to break the visitors' resistance.
• Chance to double the lead: A set-piece shortly before the interval almost produced a second, with the ball flashing narrowly wide of the far post.
• The clinching goal: After the restart, Anzio added a second, punishing a turnover in midfield with a quick, direct attack that left the goalkeeper exposed.
• Defensive resilience: In the final twenty minutes the hosts dropped slightly deeper and dealt with a succession of crosses and long throws without conceding.

Tactical Story

Anzio Calcio 1924 set up with a compact midfield three that squeezed the space in front of the back line, forcing Certosa to play sideways or go long. That pattern suited the home side, who won the majority of the second balls and were able to sustain attacks rather than simply defend them.

The most impressive aspect of the performance was the balance between ambition and control. Anzio committed numbers forward when the opportunity arose but always left enough cover behind, and their full-backs timed their runs well, providing width without leaving the centre-backs exposed. Certosa Vigor Campagnano, meanwhile, struggled to find a way through the middle and became increasingly reliant on hopeful deliveries into the box.

Standout Performers

Anzio's goalscorers will take the headlines, but the foundation was laid in midfield, where the hosts dominated the duels and recycled possession intelligently. The central defenders were commanding in the air and composed on the ball, while the goalkeeper handled everything thrown at him during the closing stages to preserve the clean sheet. For Certosa Vigor Campagnano, the goalkeeper kept the scoreline from becoming more emphatic, and the skipper in central defence produced several important blocks and interceptions.

What It Means

Collecting maximum points at home is the currency of a successful Serie D campaign, and Anzio Calcio 1924 will view this as exactly the kind of professional, low-risk win that builds momentum across a long season. A clean sheet combined with two goals is the complete package for a side with ambitions of pushing towards the upper half of the table, and the result strengthens their home record in the division.

Certosa Vigor Campagnano will take some encouragement from their defensive organisation for much of the contest, but the lack of cutting edge in the final third is the issue that needs addressing. Away days in this division are tough, and the priority now is to turn narrow defeats into draws by being more clinical when the chances arrive.
