Polisportiva Pietralunghese claimed a narrow but thoroughly deserved 1-0 away win over Angelana in Italian Serie D on Sunday evening, ending the hosts' bright start to the season with a disciplined, organised performance. A single second-half goal separated the sides on a night when the visitors' defensive structure held firm under pressure.

Match overview

The 21:00 CEST kick-off on 11 October 2026 produced a classic away-day template from Pietralunghese: soak up pressure, stay compact, and strike at the right moment. Angelana saw more of the ball and created the greater volume of chances, but they were repeatedly frustrated by a well-drilled back line and a goalkeeper in excellent form. The decisive moment arrived just after the hour mark, and from then on the visitors managed the game with maturity, slowing the tempo and taking the sting out of the home side's attacks.

Key moments

• 31' – Angelana hit the woodwork: A curling effort from the left edge of the box beat the goalkeeper but rebounded off the far post.
• 48' – Big save: The Pietralunghese goalkeeper reacted sharply to turn a close-range header over the bar from a corner.
• 63' – Pietralunghese 1-0: Mattia Proietti arrived late at the back post to convert a low cross from the right, finishing first time into the roof of the net.
• 77' – Chance to double the lead: A swift counter left the visiting striker one-on-one, but the Angelana goalkeeper stood tall and blocked with his legs.
• 89' – Late scramble: Angelana threw bodies forward and forced a series of corners, but the visitors cleared every delivery.

Tactical story

Angelana lined up in a 4-3-3 and tried to play through the middle with short, quick combinations, but Pietralunghese's 4-1-4-1 shape crowded the central lanes and forced the hosts wide. The visitors' holding midfielder was the tactical key, screening the space in front of the defence and allowing the wide players to double up on Angelana's full-backs. Once ahead, Pietralunghese dropped into a deep block and defended their box with numbers, conceding possession but very few genuine sights of goal.

Standout performers

Proietti will take the headlines for the winning goal, but the Pietralunghese goalkeeper was arguably the man of the match, making three important saves. The centre-back pairing dealt impressively with crosses and second balls, while the captain in midfield set the tone with his work rate. For Angelana, the left winger was a constant threat and the goalkeeper kept his side in the contest with a fine one-on-one stop.

Season impact

Three points on the road are precious in Serie D Girone E, and this result gives Pietralunghese a valuable lift as they look to climb away from the lower reaches of the standings. Angelana, meanwhile, are left to reflect on a night of good approach play without a cutting edge — a recurring theme that their coaching staff will need to address if they are to turn possession into points. The defeat also ends a promising home sequence and underlines how tight the margins are in this division.
