Crema Come From Behind to Beat Varese 2-1 in Serie D

A.C. Crema 1908 staged a spirited second-half comeback to defeat Varese FC 2-1 in Italian Serie D on October 4, 2026. The home side trailed at the break but turned the game around with two goals in the final 30 minutes, securing a dramatic victory at the Stadio Giuseppe Voltini.

Match Overview

Varese started brightly and took the lead in the 23rd minute with a well-worked move, finishing clinically from inside the box. Crema struggled to find rhythm in the first half, often losing possession in midfield. However, the half-time break brought a tactical reset, and the hosts emerged with renewed intensity. They equalised in the 58th minute through a powerful header from a corner, and the momentum shifted entirely.

Key Moments

The equaliser sparked Crema into life. They pressed higher and created several chances before taking the lead in the 78th minute. A slick passing move ended with a low drive into the bottom corner, sending the home crowd into raptures. Varese pushed for a late equaliser, but Crema's defence held firm, with a goal-line clearance in the 90th minute preserving the win.

Tactical Story

Varese's 4-2-3-1 formation caused problems early on, with their attacking midfielder finding space between the lines. Crema's manager responded by switching to a 3-5-2 after the break, adding an extra centre-back to deal with Varese's striker while allowing the wing-backs to push forward. This change gave Crema numerical superiority in midfield and turned the tide.

Standout Performers

Crema's captain led by example, scoring the equaliser and driving his team forward. The substitute winger who provided the assist for the winner also made a significant impact. For Varese, their striker was a constant threat, but he lacked support as the game wore on.

Season Impact

The three points lift Crema into the promotion play-off places, boosting their ambitions for the season. Varese, on the other hand, missed a chance to close the gap on the leaders and will rue their inability to hold onto the lead. The defeat leaves them mid-table, with work to do to climb higher.
