Us Pergolettese and US Folgore Caratese played out a goalless draw in Italian Serie C on 18 September 2026, a match short on goals but not on commitment, tactical discipline and late drama. Both defences held firm through 90 minutes, and while each side had moments to win it, a share of the points was ultimately a fair reflection of a tight, evenly contested fixture.

Match Overview

The game was a classic example of two well-organised teams cancelling each other out. Pergolettese, playing at home, looked to control possession and build patiently from the back, while Folgore Caratese adopted a compact, counter-attacking approach designed to frustrate and then strike on the break. The result was a first half of few clear chances, with the two goalkeepers largely untroubled despite plenty of neat approach play in midfield.

The tempo increased after the interval. Pergolettese pushed their full-backs higher and began delivering crosses into the box, while Folgore Caratese responded by committing more bodies to transitions. The game opened up in the final 25 minutes, producing the best chances of the night at both ends, but neither team could find the finishing touch.

Key Moments

• First half: Pergolettese dominate possession but struggle to break down a deep and disciplined defensive block.
• First half, late: Folgore Caratese's best chance of the opening period comes from a counter-attack, but the shot is dragged wide.
• Second half, early: Pergolettese hit the woodwork with a header from a corner.
• Second half, final 15 minutes: Both goalkeepers make important saves, one from a low drive and one from a close-range attempt.
• Full-time: A flurry of late corners comes to nothing, and the referee's whistle confirms the stalemate.

Tactical Story

Pergolettese's challenge was always going to be breaking down a side content to defend in numbers. They circulated the ball well across the back line and used their midfielders to probe the half-spaces, but the final pass was too often delayed, allowing Folgore Caratese's defenders to shuffle across and block crossing angles. When the home side did find space out wide, the delivery lacked the precision needed to punish a packed penalty area.

Folgore Caratese executed their game plan almost perfectly for 70 minutes. Their midfield screened the defence effectively, their wingers tracked back diligently, and their transitions carried genuine threat. What they lacked was a cutting edge in the final third; on several occasions they got into promising positions only to overhit a pass or take an extra touch. The draw extends their reputation as a difficult team to beat, even if the search for a winning goal continues.

Standout Players

The two centre-backs for Folgore Caratese were outstanding, winning everything in the air and reading the game intelligently to snuff out danger before it developed. Their goalkeeper also earned his clean sheet with a sharp second-half stop. For Pergolettese, the deep-lying midfielder dictated the tempo throughout, while the winger on the left was their most persistent attacking outlet, repeatedly beating his marker but finding no one able to convert his deliveries.

Table and Season Impact

A point apiece does little to change the broader picture for either club, but both will take encouragement from the defensive solidity on show. Pergolettese remain a tough team to beat at home, though they will need to find more creativity if they are to turn draws into victories and climb the Serie C standings. Folgore Caratese, meanwhile, will view the clean sheet as further evidence that their survival and mid-table ambitions are built on a reliable defensive foundation. The next round offers both sides a chance to convert good structure into tangible three-point returns.
