Scafatese emerged victorious from a five-goal thriller against AS Sorrento Calcio, winning 3-2 in Italian Serie C on 11 October 2026. The home side twice came from behind before snatching the winner in a dramatic second half.

This was a match that had everything: exquisite goals, defensive errors, and a frantic finale. Scafatese's never-say-die attitude delighted the home support, while Sorrento were left to rue missed chances in a game they had controlled for long spells.

Match Overview

Sorrento started the brighter and took the lead in the 12th minute with a well-placed shot from the edge of the box. Scafatese responded positively and equalized in the 27th minute through a powerful header from a corner. However, Sorrento regained the lead just before half-time, capitalizing on a defensive mix-up to score into an empty net.

The second half was a different story. Scafatese came out with renewed intensity and levelled again in the 58th minute with a stunning free-kick. The game seemed to be heading for a draw until Scafatese's substitute scored the winner in the 84th minute, finishing off a rapid counter-attack. Sorrento pushed for a late equalizer but were denied by a combination of resolute defending and wasteful finishing.

Tactical Story

Scafatese set up in a 3-5-2, relying on their wing-backs to provide width and overload the flanks. This caused Sorrento problems, especially in the second half as the game became stretched. Sorrento preferred a 4-2-3-1, looking to dominate possession through their midfield trio. They succeeded in controlling the first half but struggled to cope with Scafatese's direct running after the break. The winning goal came from a quick transition, exploiting the space left by Sorrento's advanced full-backs.

Standout Players

Scafatese's free-kick specialist was instrumental, scoring one and assisting another. The substitute who scored the winner also made a huge impact with his fresh legs and intelligent movement. For Sorrento, their striker was a constant threat, scoring one goal and forcing several saves. However, his teammates' inability to convert chances ultimately cost them.

Season Impact

This win lifts Scafatese up the Serie C table and boosts their hopes of a playoff push. Sorrento, meanwhile, remain in mid-table but will be disappointed to have let a lead slip twice. The result underlines the fine margins in Italian football's third tier, where consistency is key to success.
