Salernitana 1-1 FC Savoia 1908 — Salernitana were held to a frustrating draw in Italian Serie C on Sunday night, as FC Savoia 1908 earned a 1-1 result at the Stadio Arechi. Lorenzo Amatucci had given the home side a first-half lead, but Antonio Di Nardo’s second-half equaliser rescued a point for the visitors in a match that highlighted both Salernitana’s attacking quality and their difficulty in killing games off.

A dominant start from Salernitana

Salernitana began with intent. The home side moved the ball quickly through midfield, used the width of the pitch and forced Savoia into a deep defensive shape. The breakthrough came in the 37th minute when Amatucci arrived on the edge of the box and guided a low shot into the bottom corner after a patient build-up. It was a goal that reflected Salernitana’s control of the opening half.

Savoia, however, remained organised. The visitors conceded possession but defended their penalty area well, limiting clear chances and looking to counter through quick transitions. Their goalkeeper made two important saves before the break to keep the deficit at one goal, and that resilience proved crucial.

Savoia find a way back

The second half followed a similar pattern, with Salernitana pushing forward and Savoia threatening on the break. The equaliser arrived in the 78th minute when Di Nardo found space at the near post and converted a well-worked set-piece routine. The goal changed the mood inside the stadium and forced Salernitana to chase the game again in the closing stages.

Salernitana threw bodies forward in the final ten minutes, but Savoia’s defence held firm. A late header drifted wide, and a blocked shot from the edge of the area summed up the home side’s evening. The final whistle brought a mixture of disappointment for Salernitana and satisfaction for Savoia, who had executed their game plan with discipline.

Key moments

• 37’ — Lorenzo Amatucci gives Salernitana a deserved lead.
• 58’ — Savoia’s goalkeeper denies Salernitana a second with a strong save.
• 78’ — Antonio Di Nardo equalises from a set-piece.
• 90’ — Salernitana push for a winner, but Savoia hold on.

Tactical story and standout players

Salernitana controlled possession and created the better chances, but their inability to convert dominance into a second goal proved costly. Amatucci was the standout performer for the home side, linking play and arriving in dangerous areas. For Savoia, Di Nardo’s equaliser was the obvious highlight, while the goalkeeper’s first-half saves kept the visitors within touching distance.

What the result means

In the context of the Italian Serie C promotion race, this is a point that Salernitana may look back on with regret. They remain in the promotion picture, but dropping points at home against a side battling in the middle of the table is a reminder of how competitive the division can be. Savoia, meanwhile, will take confidence from a disciplined away performance and a result that strengthens their position in the standings.
