Pro Vercelli 2-2 ASD Alcione — four goals, two comebacks and a frantic final half hour produced one of the more entertaining draws of the Serie C weekend, as Pro Vercelli and Alcione shared the spoils at the Stadio Silvio Piola.

Match overview

Pro Vercelli, one of Italian football's historic clubs and a former multiple-time national champion in the early decades of the game, started the brighter of the two sides. Playing in front of their own supporters, they pressed high, forced turnovers in the middle third and looked to get the ball into wide areas quickly. Alcione, the ambitious Milan-based club climbing steadily through the Italian pyramid, absorbed the early pressure and grew into the contest as the half wore on.

Key moments

• Opening goal: Pro Vercelli struck first, capitalising on a loose ball in the box after a corner was only half cleared, with the finish swept in from close range.
• Immediate response: Alcione replied before the break, a quick counter-attack down the right ending with a low strike across the goalkeeper.
• Second-half lead: The visitors went ahead shortly after the restart, punishing a misplaced pass with a clinical finish from the edge of the area.
• The equaliser: Pro Vercelli refused to fold, and their persistence paid off when a substitute arrived late in the box to convert a cross and level the score.
• Late drama: Both teams pushed for a winner in the closing stages, with a goalline clearance and a shot against the post keeping the scoreline at 2-2.

Tactical story

The game was a classic clash of styles. Pro Vercelli wanted to play on the front foot, using their full-backs to stretch Alcione's back line and delivering early crosses into the penalty area. Alcione, by contrast, were happiest out of possession, sitting in a narrow 4-4-2 and looking to break at speed through their wide forwards. That approach worked beautifully for the visitors for much of the second half, when Pro Vercelli's commitment to attack left them exposed at the back.

The hosts' manager responded with a double substitution that changed the tempo of the match. Fresh legs in midfield allowed Pro Vercelli to win the ball higher up the pitch, and the equalising goal came directly from that renewed pressure. Alcione will feel they should have seen the game out; Pro Vercelli will argue they deserved a winner.

Standout performers

Pro Vercelli's substitute made the difference, adding energy and a goal within twenty minutes of coming on. Their captain drove the team forward throughout and was central to the late siege. For Alcione, the two wide players were a constant threat on the counter, and their goalkeeper made two excellent saves that ultimately preserved a point on the road.

Season impact

Both clubs leave with something and regret something. A home draw extends Pro Vercelli's unbeaten run but continues a pattern of dropping points from winning positions that will concern the coaching staff if it persists. For Alcione, a point away at a club of Pro Vercelli's stature is a respectable outcome and further proof that they belong at this level. In the tight, physical environment of Serie C, matches like this one — high on effort, low on control — are often the ones that decide who sneaks into the promotion race and who spends the spring looking over their shoulder.
