SS Città di Campobasso claimed a convincing 2-0 victory over Latina Calcio 1932 in the Italian Serie C PRO Cup, producing a mature cup performance built on early control, sharp finishing and a disciplined defensive effort at the Stadio Antonio Molinari.

Match overview

Campobasso started with purpose and quickly established the tempo of the contest, pressing Latina Calcio 1932 high and forcing the visitors into a series of hurried clearances. The home side’s midfield kept the ball moving efficiently, while the front line repeatedly attacked the space behind Latina’s full-backs. That pressure produced the opening goal midway through the first half and gave Campobasso a lead they rarely looked like surrendering.

Latina Calcio 1932 improved after the interval and enjoyed a brief spell of possession, but they struggled to create clear-cut chances against a well-organised Campobasso back line. The home side absorbed that pressure before striking again in the second half, effectively settling the tie and securing their place in the next stage of the competition.

Key moments

• 24th minute – Campobasso take the lead: A patient passing move ended with a low cross into the penalty area, and the home side’s forward converted from close range to make it 1-0.
• 41st minute – Latina’s best chance: Latina Calcio 1932 forced a save from the Campobasso goalkeeper with a header from a corner, but the home defence cleared the danger.
• 68th minute – The decisive second: Campobasso won the ball in midfield and broke quickly, doubling their advantage with a composed finish inside the box.
• 84th minute – Late resistance: Latina pushed more bodies forward in search of a route back into the game, but Campobasso’s centre-backs dealt comfortably with a series of crosses.

Tactical story

Campobasso’s approach was built on controlled aggression. Their midfield trio pressed in coordinated bursts, cutting off Latina’s attempts to play through the middle and forcing the visitors wide. With the full-backs advancing cautiously, Campobasso were able to sustain attacks without leaving themselves exposed to quick counter-attacks.

Latina Calcio 1932, by contrast, found it difficult to string together passes in the final third. Their most promising moments came from set pieces and crosses, but Campobasso’s defensive line held firm. Once the home side scored the second goal, the game became a matter of game management, and Campobasso saw it out with little drama.

Standout players

Campobasso’s midfield anchor was instrumental in breaking up play and starting attacks, while the centre-forward’s movement created space for the supporting runners. The goalkeeper also deserves credit for a composed display and one important first-half save. For Latina, the goalkeeper kept the score respectable with several stops, and the captain tried to drive the team forward from midfield, but the visitors lacked the final ball needed to turn possession into goals.

What the result means

The 2-0 win gives Campobasso momentum in the Italian Serie C PRO Cup and reinforces their reputation as a difficult team to break down at home. For Latina Calcio 1932, the defeat is a reminder of the fine margins in knockout football: they competed for long spells but were punished for failing to convert their best chances. Campobasso now look ahead to the next round with confidence, while Latina must regroup and refocus on their upcoming league commitments.
